  1. Alexander: I've never seen why a person has to be a "Stooge-man" or a "Marx-man." I enjoy them both. Nobody has said that one has to be one or the other, but each group had its approach to humor, and there was a difference in those approaches, hence universal appeal is not guaranteed.
  2. It is undoubtedly the most obscure session I ever produced, but there is a Prestige International album (INT 13052) that bears my production credit, and which I did as a favor to Bob Weinstock: The Sound of Flamenco - Los Morenos with Elena Marbella. We did it at Rudy's and they brought their own floor to dance on. I searched for a photo of the cover, but all Google can come up with is 2 or 3 discographical listings. If memory serves me correctly, it is just as well. Sorry for this aside--it had nothing to do with jazz, but your thread reminded me of it, Barak.
  3. Posted earlier here.
  4. Believe it or not, enjoy the leisure time that is prompted by this enduring fantasy, and have a great day.
  5. Decades ago, in my radio years, I was, variously, Gamma Globulin, Cynthia Camembert (the big cheese from New York), or Fred Nurdley, but mostly, Uncle Chris. David Amram still refers to me by the latter name. When I was on WHAT-FM, in Philly, one of my AM colleagues had a popular gospel show for which she identified herself as "The Gospel Queen" and regularly reminded her listeners that "the Lord is with us," etc. The same young lady moonlighted (somewhat literally) on our competing station (WDAS) as "Tiger Rose." On the latter, she was sponsored by a wine company and did a lot of very sexy purring.
  6. I always found the Stooges to be an annoying intrusion, esthetically revolting to look at--this is obviously humor to some people, but it never struck me that way. The Marx Brothers? That's an entirely different matter--love the Marxes.
  7. Haven't heard Redman in quite a while. Good to hear that he has improved--there was lots of room for that when I last heard him.
  8. I have always regarded Archie Shepp as a player of limited importance.
  9. So it's yet another amateur "music" video. What's the big deal?
  10. Of course, but, alas, they were VBN* cheques. *Virtual Bank of Nigeria
  11. I don't get it -- please explain.
  12. In case you never saw this, here's some vivid first-hand background. from Bill Crow's memory bank. Makes me wish I had been on the tour rather than sitting back in Benny's office, faking his autograph.
  13. You may be more familiar with his aunt, Dale Evans. She was into horses.

    Patti Bown

SW: Didn't she also record an album under her own name for Columbia? "Patti Bown Plays Big Piano" -- Columbia

    Patti Bown

Sorry to hear that. I heard Patti perform at the Apollo last May 17th. She was in a wheelchair, but she still had chops and lots of spirit. The occasion was a fundraiser for The Jazz Foundation of America, an organization that does great work in giving support to jazz and blues performers in need. Too many are. My intro to her was a Columbia album, "Patti Bown Plays Big Piano", I was not terribly impressed, but she did some fine work after that, receiving little attention.
  16. Watch it, Allen, that's not a funny quote and you are just taking advantage of the fact that my cyber knife is no match for your sharp reparté.
  17. Valerie, a bit of humor never hurts. You take things too personally--relax a little. BTW, how is our friend? I offered to help if there was anything I could do, but haven't heard anything since. I hope all went well and that our friend is on the mend.
  18. I wonder if Russell and Valerie also keep a black outfit handy and attend funerals. Many years ago, I used to read the NYT obits every day, but there came a time when too many of the departed were close to my age--so I stuck my head in the sand. Then came Obitissimo and blew the sand away!
  19. Isn't this the same offer that was listed at over $400 just a few days ago? What is going on here?
  20. I looked in misc non political and didn't see anything. I guess it was somewhere else. My fault, Randy, I put the initial post in the Film Corner thread, where it got limited views. Our resident Obit master, Russell, later posted it correctly, but I guess he removed it. Be that as it may, another good actor gone.
  21. "Nothing But a Man" is exceptionally good and too often overlooked. IMO BTW, this is the third posting of Dixon's death since early yesterday morning.
  22. Pot hole? Looks more like he ran into Stanley Crouch! He was allegedly trying to save his MacBook Air --worth saving, but....
  23. Here are some photos I received via e-mail from an African friend: Walkman Toyota Cowrolla Road sign Public notice African ingenuity, painting the pool Mass transportation Infrastructure Gas station special Ambulance Cycle pooling
  24. Do you mean Hertfordshire or Herefordshire? No
