Of all the musicians I ever met personally (and I don't mean for a handshake), Bill Dixon is the only one I did not get along with. That said, I am sorry to see him go and I hope it was a smooth transition. I did not like his music 45 years ago and I must confess that I never went out of my way to hear if it or my taste had improved. Now I will make it a point to hear what I have been missing.

Does one's # of posts reset after a certain amount of time?
Christiern replied to webbcity's topic in Forums Discussion
Not that it matters to me, but why are Political Forum posts excluded from the count? Judging by my own relatively high total, this must be a recent decision—is it? -
The way I see it: sometimes it is, sometimes it is less so. Either suits my ears just fine.

Herb did two sessions, one with Kid Thomas and another with Peter Bocage. He brought the tapes to Riverside in hopes of selling them. Bill Grauer loved them, bought them, and decided to send me to New Orleans for more sessions. That became Riverside's New Orleans: The Living Legends series, into which we incorporated Herb's tapes. When I returned to New York and began editing and compiling the sessions for release, Nesuhi Ertegun called and asked me if he could come over and listen. He did and was so impressed that he sent his own crew down to get more. I told Nesuhi that I wish I had recorded some of the marching bands. I was glad that he did. More about this on my blog if you click here. Thanks for starting this thread, Jeff.

I hope this thread has run its course and that both sides can now return to whatever it is we do best here.. BTW, Looks like JC could have used a spot of nail varnish. Not since Landa Wandowska flashed her fingers at me from across a room have I see such dainty hands.

I don't know enough about the "incident" to comment on the deletion, but posting a received PM without the sender's permission is clearly wrong. BM owes JAW an apology for that.

Getting rid of that gosh darned Facebook!
Christiern replied to Christiern's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Brad, it doesn't drive me crazy but it confirms what I have been saying all along. These people are crooks and their alleged safeguards are just so much jive. They give you steps to get out of their clutches, I followed those steps very carefully and waited more than the 14 days they claim it will take to get rid of them. You see, it doesn't work. I really hope that at least one of the anti-FaceBook individuals or groups (there are several) succeeds in suing the as of that guy. It really is an outrage that such bastards are allowed to invade people's privacy with impunity. See what you did, Brad? You got me started again. I HATE FaceBook. -

Jim, now you are going to anger the PETA people. -
CitiBank is a wonderful corporation, it has been like a parent to me. It is amazing that they hired a woman who does not look like a dog. Seriously, would it not be prudent to know what you are talking about before drawing conclusions? I have seen interviews with the lady and she comes off as being something very different from the image y'all conjure up in your minds. I really had expected a more intelligent response here (except, of course, from....)

Thanks for sharing that, Bill. I still hate the bastards. Two weeks have passed since I thought I had severed any connection I once might have had to these people. They said to wait two week for my dismissal of them to take effect. Well, I did not even come near that snake pit, but today my e-mail turned up another damned request for"friendshio", Why do these MFs still have my e-mail address? They have it because they continue to be dishonest and greedy. Fortunately, there are some weighty detractors who seem to be doing something about it. Let the poor people who have to resort to this kind of thing to get "friends" do their thing, but leave alone the rest of us, those who value what little privacy there still is out there for us. I simply refuse to let a little pipsqueak tell me what I must do to have "friends." I realize that this thing has grown out of all proportions and that it probably is far too big to fail, at this point—but I hope it all collapses when some honest people get into the act. Thanks for all the help, Bill, but these slime bags are not easily gotten rid of. Anything I receive via this damn thing gets bounced back, immediately, but no one should have to do that. Is it your birthday? Well, have a great one!!!!! -

Kevin, noting a person's ethnicity or race is, indeed, not politically incorrect, per se. You, however, added the words gratuitously, and the fact that you did so has a regrettable connotation of bigotry. Would your description (sans the two crossed out words in red) have been any less disgusting, would omitting those words have declawed your story? I really don't think so, but if you disagree, I am anxious to hear your reasoning. "Yesterday, I was shopping in the mens' clothing section of the Kohls department store in Salem, NH when I saw this elderly Hispanic guy suddenly grab a shirt hanging on a rack and loudly blow his nose into it several times." -

Indeed. -
But don't forget My Lai, to mention one incident that somehow detracts fro the celebration of this day.

Kevin: "Yesterday, I was shopping in the mens' clothing section of the Kohls department store in Salem, NH when I saw this elderly Hispanic guy suddenly grab a shirt hanging on a rack and loudly blow his nose into it several times." Was it necessary to point out that he was Hispanic? I hope you are not having a bout of Arizonia. -
The top one is particularly beautiful, Kinuta.

Isn't that thread header just a bit misleading?

I should add that I did not pay much attention to the exterior, but I remember well what it house and, in that respect, the photo is consistent with my recollection. I can still see old "Pop" Weinstock at the floor-standing drill, adding an extra hole to discs that for some reason were not to be sold at full price. He kept busy, as I recall. -

Ran it past Ira Gitler—here's the pertinent part of his response: "Chris--I may have been there once but I don't really remember it. I went to Bob's house when the Babe Ruth League baseball team (the next step for kids after Little League) that we were co-coaching had a game scheduled, but my recollections about being at the office are wispy at best." Here's a clearer photo, in case someone else can chime in... -

It doesn't look familiar to me, but it could be the place. Could it have undergone a failed facelift? I'll run it past Ira and see what he says. -
Mobile phone number suspended

Before retiring the number, they might have tried assigning it to a dumpy housewife in Sussex. Unless she subsequently started dealing or killed the neighbor's twins, I bet the number would be viewed in a more favorable light.
