  1. Guess it takes one to know one. Larry, Jim, why is this bigoted jerk still posting? You can only have one poet per family. Bertrand. You are calling this sick, homophobic racist a "poet"?
  2. That is the boring aspect of that board. To most of the members, music seems to be secondary, unless it is some rock stuff from their teen-to-yuppi years. But I guess it isn't boring to them, so we ought not knock it--they probably would find the Big "O" boring—what??? They take the music seriously?

  4. I dub thee "Boomerang." Welcome back!
  5. I'm still waiting for the UR (Ultimate Retro) series...
  6. Well, he never actually sold it...just a song title.
  7. I just listened to Dodds' Clarinet Wobble and there is no trumpet, just Dodds playing in both upper and lower register. Running time is 2:36, so that's close. You may be listening to Perdido Street Blues, a great track by the New Orleans Wanderers that has George Mitchell playing cornet w. Dodds, Lil, Ory and Johnny St. Cyr. Its running time is close to 3:11.
  8. Thank you for posting that, 7/4. I had a friend whose life was destroyed by the Scientology sect--it really needs to be thoroughly investigated and , probably, put out of business.
  9. See? Like I said, it doesn't really matter. The days of top players being trapped in that sound-bite band are over.
  10. I don't think it really matters who the musicians are, they barely get a chance to play anything worth hearing.
  11. Let it go, TtK
  12. I recall being disgusted when, as a broadcaster, I received "Walk Right In" by the Rooftop Singers, and saw them credited with the composition. It was a shameless rip-off, compounded by the $500 Gus Cannon (the real composer) received when the truth came out. Also, the so-called "arrangement" made by Darling and co. was virtually identical to Cannon's original 1929 recording. That song was everywhere and Cannon, who was quoted as being "grateful" should have received a far bigger check. You can't tell me that the RT singers didn't know--they might have though Cannon was dead, but he was not difficult to find and, if memory serves me right, he was working in a very meanial, low-paying job.
  13. Thanks, Conrad--I have made the correction.
  14. He must have been using the threadmill, it was still running. A very talented man.
  15. Same cigarette, I bet.
  16. His "Shaft" theme production number was one of the few times the Oscar show came alive for me.
  17. Just heard the sad news, will try to find some info. Here's a link to CNN.
  18. I once heard him say, "Could you pass me the sugar, please?"
  19. Ditto the late Tommy Bryant.
  20. That is a well-known fact, Aric.
  21. Nice pyramid, Dan -- kudos to you!
  22. Kudos? For invading a board w. crap? You are kidding, aren't you, Dan? Spam is spam, I say.
  23. In regards to longevity, I have acetates that have been in my possession for around 50 years, and they still play as well as ever. A lot depends on the quality of the original and how it was stored.
  24. Too young to die, too crude to amuse me before that.
