  1. Well, at least I'm not the one to kill this thread!
  2. I saw dickless. Must be a blind spot, maren!
  3. No snow today; bright blue skies and a lovely sunset just now. I went out for a walk this evening, about two miles around the nearby woods and pond. Holy crap was it cold! Beautiful, though.
  4. No, you're not the only one. It's a form of attack, plain and simple. It's easy to forget that and get carried away, especially when we're anonymous (to one degree or another) and they're famous. Can't help but note that you put a verbal attack in the very post that called for civility towards our fellows!
  5. I'm having trouble cutting through the digital fog...
  6. These guys want to sing you a Happy Birthday:
  7. That's how I read it as well...
  8. Her former husband is a jazz musician.
  9. I cut my musical teeth on bluegrass. And I still dig it.
  10. Some favorites over the years: Full House was already mentioned Cannonball Adderly quintet, in San Fransisco Keith Jarrett, The Cure Kenny Werner, Form and Fantasy Michel Petruciani, Power of Three (Jim Hall is at his best on this!)
  11. That one was beautiful....
  12. I know it's late, but I had to point out that spelling error. Too funny! Go on with yo bad elf!
  13. Allen - I think we agree more than disagree on this. I simply didn't understand what you were getting at initially the way you worded it. And I feel that there is some truth to the philosophy of "Music is food, the guitar is just a fork," to paraphrase Pat Martino. Again, it's a delicate balance. I remember seeing McLaughlin with Joey D. and Dennis Chambers, and being impressed with the music, but very disappointed with John's tone.
  14. Hold on, let's back up: What I read in this post, before your explanation above, didn't make sense to me. I see what you're saying now about rock vs. jazz guitar tonalities, and the attitudes that each group brings to the process, and agree up to a point. I think Al Dimeola's rock tone has always sucked, and it can be hard to tell a Peter Bernstein from an Anthony Wilson. However, you also have to consider what the music wants. If you're playing what is primarily acoustic jazz, it would be really difficult to make an argument for having a distorted tube amp blasting away. It's a balancing act, and I haven't found a perfect solution to the various needs that my musical situations present as of yet. I think Metheny is a good example of someone who has "exploited the qualities" of the guitar (and technology in general) in service of some forward thinking music, which is why the last sentence of your post made no sense to me. BTW, I used to get an awesome metal tone back in the day, if I do say so myself. Straight into a beautiful tube amp, run cleaner than most metalheads, but crunchy. And LOUD! :rsmile:
  15. Another one for 7/4
  16. My sentiments exactly.
  17. Well, Metheny didn't claim to speak for most jazz guitarists, so do you hate the sound of Metheny's guitar?
  18. And here we thought it was for drummers!
  19. From the first article Tom linked: Any relation to Paul? (Although I don't know if you're actually from KC)
  20. I humbly offer my guitaristic services.
  21. Sweet.
  22. I always find something to ponder in a Metheny interview.
  23. If you want to go, you'd better get tickets quick!
  24. Thanks for the post. I missed Detroit and Chicago (the latter because of the snow storm). I'm considering flying to St Louis to catch them there. Call me crazy.
