  1. Yes, the nefarious Dr Lockjaw, in his secret laboratory deep beneath the earth's crust...

    Eugenia Leon

She has a very strong voice. Not my cup of tea, but I think my sister, who is intensely interested in Mexican and Spanish culture, would dig it. Thanks for posting - I'll pass it along.
  3. Where do you guys go to get this stuff?
  4. No biggie.
  5. Yep, great straightahead playing from Pat on Wish. I think it has a lot to do with the drummer. For me, Haynes, Higgins, and DeJohnette bring out the best in him. CJ, I thought the excerpt was... interesting. Sorry, that's all I can give you right now, after one listen. I was in a somewhat funky mood that day, too.
  6. Thank you much for trying, bro!
  7. Sidebar: the downbeat that just hit the stands has all "classic" articles and interviews, including a piece by Valerie Wilmer on Monk. What really blew me away was the article written by Charlie Christian. It was as well written as anything I've ever seen in the pages of db! He was fiesty, too - standing up for jazz guitarists everywhere! B-)
  8. Some of it, yea. He likes the Beatles, the Carpenters, James Taylor, and Burt Bacharach, so that stuff crops up from time to time. I didn't say I liked all of it.
  9. When did he go hip-hop?
  10. Discussed at length here. To answer your questions, I think he's definitely one of the greats of guitar in general, and certainly a very versatile musician. He's been a major influence in my approach to music and the guitar, though lately I haven't been listening to him much. My favorite albums, in no particular order, are Question & Answer, Bright Size Life, Rejoicing, First Circle, Live in Europe, Secret Story, Missouri Sky; and the sideman stuff with Brecker, Gary Thomas, Sco, and J. Redman contained some excellent music, too. I didn't think he was a great match with Garrett, personally. I'm looking forward to the new one; I thought the last Group album/tour was the best in many years. The only "weird" project I've listened to at length was Song X. I do hear it, and I like it. I'm not going to touch the overrated/underrated question.
  11. Alison, I think it's about time you got your own handle! :rsmile:
  12. I wish. John's post got in my way.
  13. Dude! Haven't seen that guy around in a long while. I can't believe they didn't get Geoff Tate!
  14. I see the cow now. Happy Birthday, couw!
  15. That "Image hosted by Tripod" thing cracks me up every time!
  16. As they say in the vernacular, "It's all good." B-)
  17. Welcome, indeed! The way this bulletin board community continues to grow way beyond the VERY humble beginnings of Jim's website never ceases to amaze me. Even moreso because it hasn't lost that casual and friendly "after-hours" quality that was there from the start.
  18. David's MIA. Must be having one hell of a party!
  19. In that case, I wish you had won!
  20. As if you would've gotten any mike time in your catagory...
