  1. I didn't "get" Filles when I first bought it about 8 years ago. Sat on the shelf ever since, but the other day I put it on after reading this thread. I sat there wondering what the problem was back then. Sounds great to me now.
  2. New: Ensemble Modern Frank Zappa: Greggery Peccary & Other Persuasions Chris, Newk's Time is listed in the catalog.
  3. I've never heard Nick Drake actually, nor a Steely Dan tune that sounded like this. Great Joe, just shoot the man down. Goddam internet-speak! I hope you didn't think that, Wes!
  4. I would agree with the minor 3rd with a raised (major) 7th interpretation.
  5. Good call. I wrote the chord progression to this tune while visiting my parents at their cabin in northern Michigan. I've never heard Nick Drake actually, nor a Steely Dan tune that sounded like this. Nice. Thanks for sharing your impressions.
  6. Jim knows about it. See here.
  7. We heard that (about the Bird), but we also heard he wants us back in there. Time will tell.
  8. I believe Randy mentioned a possible September date at the FireFly. We will keep you (and Conn) posted.
  9. They bartender at the club we played at last night was playing this before we started. Straightahead rock. Had good energy. Couldn't hear the details beyond that in that setting (lousy acoustics in that room).
  10. I have to wait a little longer; my cd came defective and all but unlistenable. That's why I emailed Cory. He got right back to me to say he'd send another out ASAP.
  11. Best of luck on the upcoming project, Johnny.
  12. I guessed Cory, simply because we had a recent email exchange in which I invited him to post here. It could be one of the other bandmembers, I admit.
  13. Nice of you to drop in a say Hi, Cory.
  14. I like that list as is, Barak, although I don't normally think of Benson as a fusion artist. You could say it was a fusion of jazz and R&B I suppose. Put simply, I'd say that fusion was originally a melding of jazz improvisational and compositional techniques with the rhythms, textures, and energy of rock and funk. The original impulse was indeed a creative one, and one that is squarely in the tradition of jazz, IMO--that of appropriating and incorporating what's happening in the culture at large; musically, technologically, spiritually, etc. Takes a lot of vision and talent to pull that off, and the musicians you listed were among the few that did it right. Some recent fusion albums: John Scofield: Uberjam Pat Metheny Group: Speaking of Now Christian McBride: Vertical Vision there's more but I'm drawing a blank.
  15. I have never looked for an online image resourse; probably better to pick up a quality field guide, like Peterson's or Audabon. It's a good pastime. I mentioned a rarity that I spotted back in April: two pileated woodpeckers, in the woods behind my house. Haven't seen them since. I've also seen orioles around here, as well as wood ducks, wood thrushes, barred owls, and a sparrow hawk just recently. Better keep an eye out for the ravens, Moose. They've been known to track a wolf pack from the air to join in on a kill.
  16. Not bad. Throw in a meditation seat cushion and you've got yourself a deal!
  17. Just recently I was revisiting some 60's Miles Quintet cds (issued in the early 90's), and was delighted to find Christiern's name at the end of the liner notes for two of them.
  18. I'm pretty curious about it as well. I could use a new infusion of ideas. Of course, I'd have to buy a dvd player first.
  19. What book is this? (Interesting how this has become a dual topic thread)
  20. Same here. I always get the shakes, too.
  21. Yeah man, my digits are still smarting!
  22. Remains to be seen how you fare in the Dan vs. Chuck ppv event.
  23. Are you on drugs?
  24. I don't think you can say that for sure until this time next year.
