An article in the Lansing State Journal today alerted me to this 210-mile charity bike ride, taking place near Seattle, August 18-20. The website is www.ibdride.org
Something I haven't mentioned on the board (not that I can recall), though I discussed it privately with a handful of friends here, is that Michelle, my wife of nearly 14 years, died of complications from Crohn's last year at the age of 36. The story of Julielyn Gibbons that was in today's paper almost brought me to tears, remembering all the pain, the surgeries, the long hospital stays, the TPN and other medications, and most of all the dreams for a normal life that died long before Michelle did. Ms. Gibbons is showing a hell of a lot of pluck, as she's doing everything she can to raise awareness of this disease and money for helping others like her in addition to just getting on with her life - no small feat for someone with this condition, believe me.
You can make a general donation at the website, or for specific riders. To do that, you'd need the riders name and number. Julielyn Gibbons is # S-43, her friend Chelsea Hannert is S-53.
Donate only if you feel moved to do so. Thanks for reading.
