  1. I don't know about that.... From this show I'm not. It's always nice to be pleasantly surprised though.
  2. Now I don't normally criticise other people's dress sense or style but I tuned in briefly to the Brecon Jazz Festival on BBC TV earlier this evening. It happened to be during an interview with the above. And...he was wearing 'the uniform'; goatee, beret (black, of course), shades (black, of course), turtle neck sweater (shocking pink...no wait, BLACK). Oh well, it is flattering.... Then he opened his mouth and out came a load of hipster stuff straight out of Kerouac. Now, I had no idea who the guy was, and having heard him after the chat, it's evident I'm not missing out on much, but, Jesus, do the music a favour and get a bit of individuality rather than the fancy dress mode. I'm thinking that's maybe why they interviewed him; he looks and sounds the part, y'know a bit of a 'cat', a fruity guy. Sorry if I've really offended any staunch Gonzales fans here, but the parody was too much to take.
  3. File under 'H'.
  4. I found that a home made Stacey Kent compilation had me at my most relaxed, especially in the family car. However, when I went to pick up my new motor I had with me a 90 minute cassette of Organissimo and the soundtrack from Bullitt. This is great but you tend to get a bit paranoid and start looking in the rear-view mirror a lot. Then you start weaving in and out of traffic.....
  5. Drop a cog, throttle on, main beam and scare the bejesus out of them. As you pass (closely) foot off gas and listen to V8 pop. Easy way to get pleasure from the daily driving woes of numpties in and out of cars.
  6. Got mine today, well about 1/2 hour after store opened . I just had to. You know what it's like, online ordering was going to take 5 or 6 days at best. The store got 3 in this am, same price as cheapest online. I'm now transfering as much as I can but the task seems daunting. I haven't even looked at my jazz stuff yet. I wonder if 20Gb is going to get most of my collection on, should do.
  7. I think Rooster has nailed it above. Combustication in particluar, is a great album and one that suits the tiresome car journey well. I shall have to hear more.
  8. Our Man In Paris for me!
  9. Funny this should be brought up right now because I am planning on buying and iPod this afternoon! I have used MD as portables for about 4 years now. The first top of range Sony broke when I dropped it on kitchen floor tiles. Insurance replaced it with the then top of range Sony (the N1) NetMD. I have used this less, aminly because work situation has changed; ie. I had the old one on 4-5 hours a day at work -- perfect for the job. I have, as many have, recorded jazz broadcasts onto MD in LP2 and still listen to these at home, albeit with expensive Grado 'phones. I want the iPod because, well it's an iPod, and on trips I won't have to make decisions about which MDs to take. I am only to blame being a bity of an anorak because all my MDs consist of 2 to 3 max. albums in their entirety. I can't bring myself to make or listen to compilations. Also I have this idiosyncratic method of putting for example, all of my Jarrett ECMs on to discs containing other Jarrett represented on ECM, no other label etc. I'm sure I am not alone here in these ways of the jazz or music fan. Have a look here, MD forum for a very biased and youthful look at the pros and cons. BTW, new model 20gig iPod, engraved, with free delivery --- £219 from Apple.co.uk I am tempted. If you fancy my Sony Net N1 with discs (about 50 pre-recorded 2 to 3 albums per disc), carry case, remote and spare, brand new battery from N1, plug ni compartment for AA battery, Open MG software disc etc., in box. Make me an offer. Cheers.
  10. Whe I was heavily into their music, I got hold of a CD size book detailing all of their albums up to that time (1994 ish) so it didn't have the BBC Sessions etc. Anyway, this has been revised and redesigned by the same guy, Dave Lewis, who is I believe editor/ contributor ro the Led Zep fanzine 'Tight But Loose'. It's here at this site, who ship worldwide. You might get hold of a copy over there. Best of luck.
  11. Only a matter of time before we have this on MTV, Tuneful Tourettes
  12. Keep the volume down unless you're really really p155ed.
  13. Bev, having to drive past Can you give me some advice about what to play en route for My least favourite place on earth!
  14. Title track. Has me looking over my shoulder every time.
  15. Well I went about this backside first. In my teens I was a huge Steve Winwood fan --- also a fan of the overproduced sound, the polished sheen of 'Back In The High Life', 'Arc Of A Diver' etc. Much of this was due to his tunes accompanying a documentary about a certain British racing cyclist, a hero of mine at the time. Then I had no idea what a star Winwood was earlier in his career. A friend told me he had seen Winwood live in the early seventies on the same bill as Joe Cocker and raved how he sounded "blacker than most" white soul boys. I bought a best of Winwood album and that was enough to delve deeper. I thought the Blind Faith project would be worth a listen. I still think this on a weekly basis now!!! Having listened to Mr Fantasy recently I realised how much Capaldi held this band together; given the 'unusual' instrumentation this band could have easily been just another 60's folk/pop/rock hybrid. Capaldi livens up the sound with his relatively 'jazzy' drumming style. The time seems right for a Traffic revival. BTW the same friend saw Winwood again earlier this year at the Barbican in York (I think?) and he said he was fantastic. How he seemed fresh and keen, not just content to churn out the old hits.
  16. It's like knocking on your best mates door during the school holidays only to then realise he's away for a few days.
  17. Cheers Peter. I must say some folk think they are ugly but I've always had a thing for 'wedges'; not just TVRs but cars like the old Lotus Esprit --- must be takingme back to childhood thing. Anyway I appreciate your enthusiasm. You should hear it -- the over-run is great, pops and gurgles in all the right places. Always happy to oblige. PS. I'm doing bits to the bodywork today, the odd touch up job. My blue TVR valve caps should be here today too
  18. Going topless is now a joy.
  19. So thanks all for the advice and interest shown here. My wife thinks I'm mad --- some sort of early-onset Mid Life Crisis. She could be right, but that would have meant it started when I was 18. Anyhow, here is said motor. BTW the garage is now the same colour. Cheers.
  20. Well I have now a new motor I have spent a long time trawling the net and classifieds for something that met my criteria and have, over the last month or so, chosen to view a few cars. The whole business of travelling to see one is so time consuming and difficult to organise given my circumstances. However, I was fairly judicious and chose to pick out only those that may have had me reaching into pocket. Actually this one was only 90 miles away. It's a TVR 350i with a bit of modification, and it sounds absolutely gorgeous. Over the next few weeks I will be spending a bit of time doing stuff on it to bring it up to tip top condition. The motor etc are excellent, the bodywork is very good but there are 4 or 5 very small nicks and chips that need doing. I'm in V8 heaven. For the ride home I had my pre-prepared tape ready. Side 1 -- Bullitt soundtrack. Fatal for travelling to; I was constantly looking in my rear view and shifting down B-) Side 2 ---- Needless to say it rained all the way home. Yesterday was worth the wait though
  21. There are probably loads more but I have one disc with Trane/Dizzy playing 'Coast to Coast'. Apparently the album was called Bebop Professors TOCD5626.
  22. Not on your own doorstep then? Always obey the first rule.
  23. That is indeed the shop I was talking about. You do get about.
  24. I remember it was on a canal. That's actually not that helpful really is it?
