  1. Bowmore 15 yr old. Just got back from Edinburgh so I'm still in that 'mode', if you know what I mean.
  2. A Google image search brought this up. So if these chicks do stuff with one, tell us more.
  3. I was the model teenager. Of course, my parents didn't held a slightly different view on this.
  4. All the best. I'll give 'Boogaloo...' a spin this afternoon in your honour. I might even try to dance to it
  5. Outside my front door last week. This is the second and, usually, last batch from the hens. Unfortunately they rarely all survive.
  6. Just think of all the fine albums we'd be without if the electric protagonists were denied their thing; remember, this isn't only the bass players themselves but the directing forces, people like Miles.
  7. Anything from Miles Smiles. Ebony Samba from Getz's Jazz Samba Encore. El Barrio from Henderson's Inner Urge The Moontrane from Unity Jinrikisha from Henderson's Page One. Journey Home from Jarrett's My Song. Blue Seven from Saxophone Collosuss SPANISH KEY, SPANISH KEY, SPANISH KEY!!!!!
  8. Secondhand from Polar Bear in Manchester. Have only had time to listen to one track so far. Needless to say, I'm not dissapointed.
  9. How about 'The Unusual Suspects' and here's the cover
  10. Stick That In Yer Pipe And Smoke It.
  11. And I am at my most virulent in Misc. Music 40%.
  12. And about 99.9% of all BABE!!! posts
  13. Maybe some Fred Hersch. That album with Greg Tardy (is it +2?) sounds interesting. Keep meaning to get some Ellery Eskelin and the latest Rava on ECM. Edited because I didn't read the post correctly
  14. Create your own apocalyptic scenario.
  15. Honest. I was trying to find something completely different when I came upon this.. Check out the back cover.
  16. I voted for 'Plus 4'. The main reason being I'm not a great fan of Harold Land but think Rollins and Brownie were the kids on the block. The only other choice for me was the 'Basin Street' disc, but the two Rollins originals on Plus 4 snatch it. It also has more of a 'gig' feel to it. Not many albums give you that sense of being there; even many live albums just give the impression of hearing a historical document. Plus 4 always put me in the club environment.
  17. I'm now on 'Blake's Shake'; it's got a very retro sounding vibe but with some very modern elemnets thrown in -- can't believe the dance floor crowd haven't tried nicking some samples from this one. Being a fan of the instrumentation, I obviously think it's great stuff, moreover it's great to be able to place something tangible, living and breathing, alongside the thousands of posts on this board. Forgive me if this sounds somewhat new-age or slushy, but it makes you feel more connected. BTW, I did notice your gig schedule and judging by the number of 'Brewing Houses' you guys play at I was expecting to see 3 rotund, shiny nosed beer monsters..... And I only saw one.
  18. Now, I find this interesting because I notice Lloyd's last few albums have been recorded on analogue (correct me if I'm wrong) whereas most ECM's and many contemporary albums are recorded digitally. Does this mean that Lloyd's albums sound different on top range equipment compared to other ECM's, which are often accused of 'sterility' or 'lifelessness'? I'm probing because I'm not an audiophile and my curiosity was stirred by the mention of these Lloyd discs.
  19. I started with the obvious, Getz/Gilberto, many years ago. It certainly gave me the impetus to investigate the fusion between jazz and Brazilian rhythms. My last Jobim based purchase was the 4CD set by Verve 'The Girl From Ipanema' which gathers Getz's bossa recording with Byrd etc. I was particularly impressed with the Maria Toledo session. Now, a damn good imitation ( no Brazilians, and no Getz) is Jim Tomlinson's 'Brazilian Sketches' on Candid. He's often known as Mr Stacey Kent and the missus sings on several tracks. In the absence of Getz, he'll do fine.
  20. Thanks Ubu.
  21. Late last night I ordered (from Zweits): Ornette - Tomorrow Is The Question Lee Morgan - Search For The New Land Sonny Rollins - Way Out West Donald Byrd - Free Form Miles - Scaffold soundtrack (Fontana release).
  22. Thanks for the feedback. I actually received the Evans Riverside set from them during their last sale and it sounds as good (or bad!) as the original ZYX discs. I'm content with that. As for CC BNs; well, that's all I've managed to get hold of so far in this country. I'm not sure of an alternative to the latest reissues. I'm in need of enlightenment regarding this. Cheers.
  23. Blue Note RVGs at 6.99 Euro, OJC remasters at 4.99 and SACD Hybrids of Riverside, Fantasy etc. titles at 14.99 Euro. Zwetausendeins --- scroll down a bit The postage is also very cheap within EU. Happy browsing!
  24. And what do you reckon? I've heard very mixed opinions about this one.
