So why is it you don't get Miles again John?

My new one: 1974, Felice Gimondi, riding for Bianchi in his rainbow World Champion's jersey from the previous year's win in Barcelona.

We've got a fresh feeling westerly wind. Lots of rain but some sun in between--- true April showers day. As the British weathermen say "Rain may clear to leave a mixed day with some drizzle...." About 11 C. We had the stream right up last night (in front of the house) so I hope the ducklings that arrived last week haven't been washed away as often happens around this time of year. The rape-seed is coming out and the wild garlic is wafting through the house -- my favourite time of year for smells. Cheers, Tony.

Nice to see Eddie Izzard in there. Not that I'm patriotic at all but he is a funny guy. Anyone ever heard his "monkey in the tree" set before? -
A rather nice Canon Ixus i digital camera. Just playing with it now.

Bloody Hell!!! I did the same search and was amazed by the quality of those 'puppy's noses', all on one page.

Well FWIW, I don't see how it could cause offence. If a female (or whatever) board member decided upon a partially clad male then I wouldn't give two hoots either. She's pleasing to the eye. She's not doing anything sexual or exposing genitalia -- Hell it might not even be a chick for all we know.... But let's have a little cultural perspective here --- Evan, now you are in Miami. You are exposed to this sort of image everyday you jump in your Testarossa and hurtle down the strip...it's the norm for you..... If I were to upload anything like this it would be a bit false and in some way pretentious. Now if any of you are offended by whippets or pigeons, speak now.

If we're not talking about that brilliant film 'Grown Man Naked' then yes. Lots, we used to get lots coming through the mortuary. BTW that film might be a R18 over on your side of the pond.

How many of us can listen to music at work?
tonym replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
In my last three jobs (present job first): Yes, providing it's things like 'Wheels On The Bus' and other children's faves. Yes, anything I liked, all of my chosing, but at a sensible volume and battery power permitting (why did I stop working there?). Yes, but it was an old guy called Trevor (who was actually a deathly, fish-belly white colour as he had worked night shifts since leaving school) who owned the radio. So we got things like local radio chat and Golden Greats -- you know the score! Stuff you would rather not have on. -
The last time I bought home audio I took the following; Ben Webster/Gerry Mulligan sessions on Verve Master Edition --- I know how the VMEs can often be hissy but the original CD issues lack clarity, I wanted to see how a good system would handle this well recorded album. Radiohead - OK Computer --- although a well recorded modern album would sound decent enough on any system I was curious as to how this would with all of it's sonic effects and varying textures . My wife took some Phillips recorded Elgar and Dvorak discs; a mixture of cello & violin concerti and some orchestral stuff.

That is, by the way, a TVR 400 SE ( I would go for the 390 SE --- same V8 block and similar modifications to body). Or if a V8 S series turned up at the right price (they fetch quite a lot) I would love one of these:
-
Well. Surprise, surprise, that particular car has gone but I'm still keen on getting a classic though. I have always longed for a TVR and I have my mind set on something like this now. They come up fairly frequently and can be pretty unreliable, but I'll only be insuring for 5000 miles a year at most. I'll keep you updated. BTW, they will easily fit in our garage. The 'Vette would have been tight!!!

I remember thinking exactly the same thing. Especially the closing credits where I craned my neck to read all the musical info. Did anyone think this is where they got the idea for The A Team?

I think I was most chuffed to see Lee Konitz a few years back. -
WEIRD Dreams?? Recurring or one of a kind??
tonym replied to Templejazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Your dream Joe reminds me of one I had a few times about 7 or 8 years ago before I took the plunge and had formal sax lessons. I had briefly attempted sax in school at about 12 but it didn't last long for various reasons. Just before I rented a sax I had been a jazz fan for a few years and in the dream I remember putting the mouthpiece in and my fingers 'floating' over the keys producing a carbon copy Giant Steps solo. Funny thing is, it must have been 13 or 14 years since I had last held a sax but the 'taste' of the reed and the mustiness of the instrument seemed so familiar, even down to the smell of the case (those school horns must have been a bit on the funky side!). Ironically, I haven't yet been able to play that solo -- or any Trane solos for that matter -
I was just about to say the same. This one is amazing -- that insistant cymbal work. Cheers, tonym.

BTW Brandon, if you ever get chance to see a UK show called Peep Show over there, you must watch it. Told through the eyes of two flatmates, both 'losers' and deluded in various ways, it encompasses office politics, sexuality and general Generation X malais. Funnily enough I'm not really a comedy person. When it is clear that someone is trying too hard to be funny I switch off. These shows are real gems though. Cheers, tony.

The reasons stated above are why I voted for him in a past BB thread (one about the definitive Blue Note house pianist). Relaxed, soulful, coherant, ebulient -- much like Wynton Kelly at his best. Cheers, tonym.

It's Saturday evening here in the UK. Millions of shoppers have arrived home laden with 'stuff'. Some of them may be enjoying their new purchases, others may be searching for the receipt in order to exchange it tomorrow (in the UK now, Saturday and Sunday are almost interchangeable, except for car-boot sales and 'Antiques Roadshow'). So. What music did you buy? I'm aware that many of you may have huge stockpiles of records in a queue and lots of you may buy online. Me? No music today. Next week maybe. Cheers, tonym.

Been wearing the last one for 5 years now and I started a new job a few weeks back. Hope you can all contribute. cheers, tonym.

WEIRD Dreams?? Recurring or one of a kind??
tonym replied to Templejazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
That is really weird Chris as I was just thinking of posting and I wasn't sure where to start with mine!!! A few years ago the nuclear war thing was quite common with me. I live in the countryside and from my bedroom window I can see a fair few miles to the east. The dream goes like this. My wife is at work and I'm alone with my son. She has to drive 20 miles to the east, near a large industrial area. When the warning comes it isn't long before a large mushroom rises in that direction and we brace oursleves for the worst. Then it ends. Same scenario everytime. At about the same time, I started getting another recurring one. I ride a bike, 'serious' for a few years. This one dream I am on my bike alone training in a part of the world I rarely visited when out training, a coastal resort about 50 miles away. I hit some steep hills and grind away. The speed drops to such a point where I either have to get off completely because all forward motion is lost. Or my feet start pulling up off the pedal cleats (sometimes the uppers on the shoe come away from the sole). Other times I suddenly find myself without any shoes on and my feet 'claw' over the pedals and I continue to plod on in agony. All of these dreams seem to suggest a total lack of control: over evnts globally and personally. During therapy following a road accident 3 years ago I spoke to the psychotherapist about one or two more 'sinister' ones in which my son was killed (in various ways) --- he was 2 weeks old at the time of the RTA. She said all of the above do suggest powerlessness compared to pre-accident when I felt very much to the contrary --- in control. BTW. Dreaming of things coming out of the mouth; ie. hair growing in between teeth etc. is often said to represent the fact that creepy crawlies may 'visit' during the night. Nice.... -
I thought he might have been. You know he had that 'seasoned' look about him....the uphill paper round look. Cool guy though.

I enjoyed Dave (David?) Gilmour when I saw him with Dave Douglas last year. not sure if he's been around a while though.

No, I would expect some Americans to understand such things. I don't think it's ever been suggested that Europeans are 'way ahead' or whatever, after all, it is the great American art form we're dealing with. Carry on like that and you're in danger of offending us European board members. I don't think that would achieve anything or be of any benefit to anyone.
