  1. I hope you enjoy the xmas specials, if you haven't already seen them. A few people complained over here that they didn't have that 'edge' that the series posessed. I loved them though. I think a few of those viewers were expecting your typical 'all singing, all dancing Christmas show'.
  2. Buy it ASAP! Watch the most insensitive, tactless and vulnerable person to grace the screen since Alan Partridge on his downward spiral. Genius.
  3. Well done both of you...best feeling in the world isn't it? There's a whole lot more joy to come. cheers.
  4. Well, one never knows...Bev and Mary McGoon(where has he been of late?) are guys! Naww... is there any way to cancel sent PMs?
  5. The name 'rachel' sort of gives it away a bit! But that's a way better pic than your avatar.
  6. FWIW Crazy Jazz's website prints the 'Crowned' titles as each edition appears. However I've looked at theirPenguin 6th ed. and they have yet to add the 7th ed. Keep checking anyway. cheers, tonym.
  7. That's turned out on the large side. Here's one of my wife and I at our son's 2nd birthday, last year.
  8. I may as well join the fun... From almost 3 years ago (I've aged a fair bit since).
  9. Just tuned in so I've missed the celebrations but thanks to the band and all members for such a great, lively and friendly board. Cheers. Tonym
  10. The first Chick I heard was on Silent Way and I laboured away on that one in relative jazz naivety in order to decipher what he and Hancock were playing and how it differed. Not a good album to try that on really. Given that their relative contributions were largely 'riff' based. I did hear very well though what he plays on his long solo on track one of that album. On the last ECM under Vitous' name I wish he weren't there. I mean the album would have worked perfectly well with bass, drums, sax and guitar. Not a slant on Corea. The live excerpts, with Burton, that I've seen on TV and video did appear to be noodling musicianship. I'm probably totally out of order there in some eyes (ears). I know I'm missing some great stuff and Sweet Rain is absolutely amazing. An album that Blue Note should have made, at that very time, with RVG creating a sonic gem rather than the muddy artifact we're left with from Verve. The album sounds totally contemporaneous with what was going on over at late 60's BN. However, I'm not enough a fan of Corea's to say that the album has a pianist's identity stamped on it. Now if it weren't Getz playing on it...
  11. The taste of tap water varies widely throughout the UK, depending upon whether you live in rural or urban area, the quantities of naturally occuring minerals and compounds. I am sure this must be the same in the US. BTW. I don't drink tap water that hasn't been filtered.
  12. All the best mucker.
  13. I am aware of the feelings of many members here toward Blue Note of new. I am also aware that some of the same members may love the Blue Note of old. Their reissue programme notwithstanding, when do you feel the last time the label really took a chance and put out some probing music from an artist (well known or not). I don't like to generally limit discussions to one particular label and I may be retreading old ground here anyway. However, given that some have suggested that even the 'big' names output lately has been rather tame (ie. Joe Lovano) are we talking Don Byron's last release or Greg Osby on some of his excursions; or are we looking further back to Brian Blade Fellowship or Mark Shim? Do you think that is it for the label now? Or are you of the opinion that they are just moving with the times? Let us know. Cheers.
  14. Good authors, too, who once knew better words. Now only use four letter words, writing prose.....anything goes! The whole lyric is fantastic, and, if I'm not wrong, one of his most lengthy. He could also speak volumes on minimal ones like, say, I Concentrate On You. cheers, tonym
  15. As long as it's not The Darkness. Don't tell a soul when you get that one. cheers, tonym
  16. I don't own any. One reason being that I prefer to explore individual albums at a time, and with Mosaics having that price tag, I can indulge in several quality purchases rather than the one set. I'm not a completist (getting close with one or two guys) so having the music thata Mosaic presents isn't an issue --- if I have some of it on particular albums that suffices I suppose. Secondly, and this is more important from my POV. Apart from a few artists, there aren't many that Mosaic represent that really appeal. I'm always finding new artists to explore and for this reason my buying habits tend to be quite diverse, but often quite 'cyclical', I will revert back after a break to get discs sought after for some time. cheers, tonym
  17. That was a sad, sad film (I knew a couple of sufferers). When I left the cinema my wife was crying. 20 minutes later when I had pulled over to order a pizza, I got back into the car and she was still crying. Can't remember Dex though. tonym
  18. Since most of the Aebersold rhythm sections get the better of me when I practice then this is really redundant but, in some sort of Fantasy Island situation I would go for either Bill Evans or John Taylor on piano, Marc Johnson or Palle Danielsson on bass and on drums, Jon Christenson or Joey Baron. Any permutation of these would be my ideal section. If I had a guitarist present then Colin Oxley would be great. Then they could get together and fire the tenor sax player....

    Why I hate Miles

Don't get me wrong John. I respect anyone's decision to like something or not. It is for that reason that I didn't try to 'convert' you. Hell, there are lots of folk who admire Joni Mitchell or Stan Getz; two artists who I loathe/love respectively. cheers, tonym.

    Why I hate Miles

Eek!! That's what I have always loved about Miles. The fact he doesn't need a shedload of notes, but plays the ones of choice SOooo well. You're a brave man John cheers, tonym
  21. She's all over the place in the UK. Did anyone else think that video was a KFC commercial at first?

    Enrico Rava

Thanks Bev. I was looking out for that Miles live CD when it came out. Didn't see it for the usual reasons (Borders too intent on stocking 20+ copies of Lee Ritenour's Greatest Hits etc.). Didn't buy online for the usual reasons (credit card woes!). BTW I noticed Stanko's new album in HMV for £14.99 but if you are attending one of the gigs (I can't remember if you posted whether you are) you may see it cheaper there. cheers, tonym

    Enrico Rava

Just looking at the new ECM website and it is profiling a new release by said trumpeter with his working quintet. New Enrico Rava Date is possibly March 11th. cheers, tonym.
  24. EST -- never fail to really draw me in. Improvisation: Great. Tunes: Great Hooks: Great Seem like nice enough blokes. Don't have that tired Jamie Oliver image (you maybe have to be a Brit, for that). On a fairly small label which does invest heavily in some quite daring stuff. They seem to have everything going for them, but yes, where do they now head to?
