  1. You're complete right. I could have posted three baby pictures, but .................. What about these charming ladies? These (sisters ) are from the 1930s. One of my favorite Boswell Sisters recording is one of their first: the 1925 Victor recording of Nights When I'm Alone . - it's so pure, so amateurish, so innocent, so sweet - don't you think so? BTW: The PAUL Sisters happen to be the PAULL SISTERS. (Sorry I missed one letter ) Keep swinging Durium Durium, you would be hard pressed to find a bigger Boswell sisters fan than me! No better vocal group ever, IMHO. If you like the 1925 recording of Night's When I'm Lonely, I bet you would like the other side, which for some reason was left off the Storyville Chronological cds! I'm Gonna Cry(The Cryin' Blues) is a great little tune. I wish they had re-recorded it in the 30's, but what you gonna do? I love the line, "With all my persistence, you still keep your distance" Something about the way it rolls off of Connie's tongue.....sigh....Anyway, the only place I know of the track is the old ASV Boswell sisters cd. If you want to see the sisters(No clips yet of them on the 1932 Big Broadcast) check out these at youtube.com..... http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=boswell+sisters
  2. Dan, so why does it still seem like Boras is in the driver's seat? At least it sounds like that from Theo, et al, and I just don't get it! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2694660
  3. Best of luck Jim! Don't push it too much afterwards, even if you are feeling good! Sitting was a lot harder on my back than just lying down, or even walking (A little bit)
  4. I saw that line (the rapist)written on a sign next to an office many years ago on Benny Hill!!!!(and bet it was old during vaudeville)
  5. Funny, I could see some high school kids writing some of those, on purpose. Funniest line along those lines I read years ago....I think it was umm, Dickens, or Melville who wrote this. Yeah, that's the ticket.... My dick was as hard as quantum physics.
  6. While I agree with you in that I've seen them (well, not Friends ) enough to not buy such boxes you do realize that they cut out something like 5 to 8 minutes or so of each episode. So those George reaction shots and so forth get snipped away. The "true" fans want it unadulterated. More like 2 minutes per, those are only 30 minute time slots you know! Sitcoms run about 22 minutes these days, dramas 44 minutes, naturally. But, I got Police Woman, and SWAT very cheaply earlier this year,(Mid 70's shows for the young folks here) and they run 50-51 minutes!
  7. A great site for checking out future release dates, and reviews...a bit of info http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6675
  8. I bet your 2 year old can throw harder as well! To kinda, sorta, umm, defend Jason, LaRussa left him out twice to get creamed to save the ol' bullpen. I think he gave up 12 runs twice. Really not fair to do that to anyone, that's what you have the minors for. Send the 5th outfielder down for a few days, and bring someone up. Someone (Perhaps on one of the espn blogs?) mentioned those 2 games, and by taking them away, his e.r.a. is then "only" low 5's. Still, makes no sense to give him 3 years. I bet I could give up only 6 runs per 9 innings. I had a pretty good hook,(before I had wrist surgery) Of course, I am 39 and have chronic back trouble. But, I am a lefty...hmmm...
  9. Dan, why don't you guys make some kind of effort to get Mike Gonzalez from the Pirates? He was 24 for 24 as a closer. 2.14 ERA. 1.47 after the All star break. He's a lefty, who throws hard. Would you guys fear a lefty closer? The Braves nearly had him for Adam LaRoche, but the deal fell thru. We almost went from the worst bullpen in the NL to the best this year(We did get Soriano from Seattle)
  10. And many more David!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. No, He's a bleeding heart like you, and every other poster on the Poli forum! He just plays the devil's advocate.
  13. Dude, they used up all their food there! They used up all their gas. THEY BURNED THEIR TIRES! He and his wife didn't eat, so the children would have food. She BREAST FEED the the 4 year old. He had to do what he did. Couldn't hope to be found in time. Um, I think Jim said he was foolish to go off the road, not that he shouldn't have ventured out. ...... Jim said ....heroric!?! More like idiotic.Leave your kids and your wife in a car while you trek out blindly into a snowstorm with tennis shoes and no coat? That's what I was objecting to. Jim later said he didn't mean to be harsh. I still say if you were in his shoes, and were out of fuel, no one saw the burning tires, out of food, and your wife was forced to breast feed a 4 year old, you to would go looking for help, before you were too weak from hunger to be of any use. Wish he had gone down the hill to that lodge.....
  14. Dude, they used up all their food there! They used up all their gas. THEY BURNED THEIR TIRES! He and his wife didn't eat, so the children would have food. She BREAST FEED the the 4 year old. He had to do what he did. Couldn't hope to be found in time. He was from San Fran, which while "Cool" year round(except for heatwaves in Oct/Nov) ain't cold. Oregon is not Michigan either. I believe this was a very freakish weather event. My Mom was from Oregon, and she said it very rarely snowed there. Sounds like they were at elevation, so more likely to see snow, but still, not the upper midwest by any stretch. I have to admit, I was feeling sorry for the family when I heard he died, but figured he was just a skinny computer geek, who probably didn't put up much of a fight. After reading this article, he fought with every ounce of strength he had. Hell, he did put up a superhuman effort to save his family. Imagine going thru everything he did, thinking he HAD to save his wife and babies, and just couldn't find a way. Imagine being in his shoes, and knowing you're going to die, never see them again? He wasn't an outdoorsman, but he died a hero, IMO. Reading this story brought me to tears.
  15. Good question, haven't noticed that name in ads lately. Yes, they make that, along with 2 other SUVish things, the Rainier and the Terraza. The only cars are the Lucerne, and the LaCrosse. Sounds like a very American brand, don't it? Hey look, they have a link to show you their discontinued models! http://www.buick.com/heritage/index.jsp?trim=discontinued The Buick LeSabre.....In fact, when LeSabre was finally taken out of production in 2005 it had been America's best selling full-size sedan for more than 12 consecutive years. So naturally, we stopped building it.
  16. Damn! Most of the good stuff has long since been cleared out at the one and only Atlanta Tower. No jazz sets at all.
  17. Yeah, I was thinking Buick too, although I was thinking the very sexy Century might fit the bill. Clearly, you guys did not read my post! They did away with all the names used for years. Park Avenue,Century(A really old name, used off and on since the 30s) before that the Electra, And LeSabre. Quick, don't look it up, name the cars made today by Buick.
  18. GM does have good news from sales in China though...... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12801549/
  19. Interesting article. Guy This article mentions how "analysts" always are talking how GM should "need to slim down the company and get rid of less popular brands." It seems incredibly stupid to cut down on the makes GM produces. They did that with Oldsmobile. True, sales were down 75% from 15 years before, but still when you kill a brand, your company likely loses all the customers that always bought that brand. Has GM done any better since dropping Olds in 2000? I'm not arguing that GM and Ford don't put out completely bland, white bread cars. But in the past, when Pontiac, Olds or Buick had a stodgy image, and several other competing makes sold better than them, GM infused the brand with money, and new ideas. They might be 9th in sales beforehand, then with hot new designs/Engines, etc, 3-4 years later they would be up to 4th in sales. That is what used to happen at GM. Guess it just can't be done today with all the technological advances they have other the folks who just put pen to paper, or carved a hunk of clay. Now, they just kill brands. Or models. LeSabre was the best selling Full size American car thru 2005. So naturally, you kill the name that had been used since 1959, and slap on the name Lucerne. We want younger customers, screw the loyalists! GM isn't the only one to do this. Lincoln tried like hell to kill the Town Car. There will forever be people 60+ that want a car like that, but hey, lets try to push a smaller car that looks like every mid size Japanese car on earth! And to truly show how stupid Ford is, they killed the Taurus, even thought it was selling well(around 250,000 a year) off a little from it's peak, but still fords best selling car, even without being in dealerships for a few years. Fleet sales. Guess Ford didn't need the money. Plus, they closed the plant in Atlanta that made both that, and the Mercury Sable. So what? Shit happens. True, but this plant according to a 2005 report, ranked number one in productivity for American assembly plants. But, it was old fashioned. Onward and upward, and all that. While doing some checking on the web, I saw that the Fusion, one of the cars to replace the Taurus will will be built in Mexico, along with the Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr.
  20. Agreed, though to his credit, he set a career high last season for games played, and the previous two years, he went on the DL after getting hit by a pitch and breaking a bone, I believe. So its actually been a while since he's had a non-fluke injury. Dan, you heard it from me first. Spead it as you desire. Fred Lynn Jr.
  21. dan, I wondered that as well...was he a smoker? Chewer? Great news about Lester! I thought I had heard he would miss much of next year.
  22. Gene Krupa, Charlie Ventura and Bobby Scott performing Dark Eyes (1957).
  23. An interesting story on Buddy Bell and his battle with Cancer. Guy's stubborness nearly killed him, but still got to admire his toughness(to a point) Cancer battle a journey for Bell
  24. Very strange! Jazz cds typically get 20 or less views. Past 1100 now...
