  1. First, you use the word "chest" we all know how men feel about them, then you say group hug...sounds like sexual harassment to me!
  2. Leo Mazzone also deserves some credit- the Braves seem to turn a lot of pitchers around into consistent winners. Yes, you are absolutely right...Mazzone is a miracle worker....neither guy is considered a "genius" like Tony LaRussa, but they do more with less than just about anyone else. Yet, I still run into folks in the ATL that thing Bobby Cox is stupid, and the team would really do well with anyone else running it.
  3. And yet most Lennon Fans would be against executing murderers...unless like they kill a really special person like John! (Personally, I hope some Lennon fan at least beats his ass up if he gets out!)
  4. There is only one Bey, Turhan Bey!
  5. No, he shouldn't....he wouldn't let Megadeth release their original cover of these boots.....they had to bleep out all the cool words!

  7. Since we can't seem to get fresh ones here...
  8. Anyone watching CNN/FOX/Weatherchannel footage? I don't know if the reporters are closer to the eye this time, but they are saying almost to a man(and woman) that it is worse this time, than during any of the other hurricanes. Winds were 120 I think when the storm came ashore, but that was almost 4 hours ago, and the guys on CNN in Melbourne are saying it is the worst wind of all right now! I recall with Andrew that they found out it had gotten even stronger just as it came ashore, wonder if the same thing happened here...it came ashore just about the same place as Francis, but much worse it seems, the guys on CNN were just about blown away! Damn, damage will probably be worse than the other storms....Jeanne already killed 1500+ in Haiti!
  9. That game was beyond deja-vu(As Yogi might say) I was so caught off guard with him still out there (Saw highlights during braves game) I thought that surely they brought Pedro in for the 8th inning, not that he was still out there! Damn, the bullpen that tired? He is not Roger Clemens, or Shilling, a pitcher that gets better, throws harder as the game goes on....do you think the Sox get that now??? Oh, and the Braves with a 46 year old first baseman(Who has driven in more runs than anyone his age EVER has) a rookie in left fielder, a catcher with no track record at the major league level, Chipper back at 3rd base and a starting does not have Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, Millwood, Jason Schmidt anymore still ran away and hid from the rest of the East....Bobby Cox is a genius, at least duing the regular season...13 straight, with AOL/TimeWarner forever cutting the budget....
  10. Thought it would be a silly story, but makes several valid points instead.... Men, Women More Different Than Thought By LINDSEY TANNER AP Medical Writer September 25, 2004, 12:33 PM EDT CHICAGO -- Beyond the tired cliches and sperm-and-egg basics taught in grade school science class, researchers are discovering that men and women are even more different than anyone realized. It turns out that major illnesses like heart disease and lung cancer are influenced by gender and that perhaps treatments for women ought to be slightly different from the approach used for men. These discoveries are part of a quiet but revolutionary change infiltrating U.S. medicine as a growing number of scientists realize there's more to women's health than just the anatomy that makes them female, and that the same diseases often affect men and women in different ways. "Women are different than men, not only psychologically (but) physiologically, and I think we need to understand those differences," says Dr. Catherine DeAngelis, editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association. DeAngelis, who became the journal's first female editor in 1999, says she has made it a mission to publish only research in which data are broken down by sex unless it involves a disease that affects just men or women. In recent months, two medical textbooks billed as the first devoted to gender differences in all areas of medicine, not just reproductive medicine, were published; a widely cited Journal of the AMA report re-emphasized the neglected fact that lung cancer, not breast cancer, is the No. 1 cancer killer among women; and the American Heart Association announced the first-ever heart disease prevention guidelines tailored specifically for women. And this fall, the office of Surgeon General will issue its first-ever report on osteoporosis. The crippling bone-thinning disease disproportionately affects women, who lose the bone-protecting effects of estrogen at menopause. The report will emphasize prevention -- and that it's not just a woman's disease -- 20 percent of patients are men, said Wanda Jones, director of the Office on Women's Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The gender-based medicine movement isn't an effort to diminish the importance of breast cancer, but is meant to emphasize that "we have more than one body part, folks. Up until now ... that awareness just hasn't been there," said Sherry Marts of the Society for Women's Health Research. That organization seeks to expand the definition of women's health beyond breast and reproductive health, what some call "bikini medicine." Until the 1990s, scientists frequently excluded women from medical research, including drug studies. It was largely out of concern over effects on reproduction but also because of a long-standing belief that men and women "were biologically the same except for their reproductive organs," Marts said. However, recent discoveries suggest that genes, hormones and lifestyle may be behind many of the differences. For example: * Heart attacks in women frequently don't involve chest pain and may involve more vague, flu-like symptoms. * Women who don't smoke appear to be more susceptible to lung cancer than nonsmoking men. Women also tend to get lung cancer at younger ages than men, and they appear to metabolize cancer-causing substances differently than men. * Women are less likely than men to get oral cancer. * Women are more prone to autoimmune diseases, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis, in which disease-fighting mechanisms mistakenly attack the body's own tissues. * Some AIDS-fighting medicines appear to metabolize more quickly in men than in women, who may require gender-specific doses. * Women's symptoms for ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease -- debilitating intestinal diseases that affect men and women -- vary considerably each month, requiring frequent medication adjustments. Inflammatory bowel disease, which encompasses both Crohn's and colitis, is a specialty of Dr. Sunanda Kane, a University of Chicago researcher who is studying why the problem seems to be on the rise among young women. Both diseases damage the digestive tract and in severe cases, doctors remove part of the colon and patients must wear colostomy bags. Kane says she got interested in a gender-based approach several years ago during her training, when there were few other gastroenterologists who were women. "Female patients were thrilled to see a woman and they started to tell me things they'd never tell their (male) doctors," including what their menstrual periods were doing to their disease, she said. But as in many areas of gender-based medicine, many important questions remain, including how aging affects inflammatory bowel disease, Kane said. "Anecdotally, people have told me their disease went into remission after menopause," and some women "are asking me if they can have a hysterectomy so they can go into remission," Kane said. It's an issue that could have a huge impact on patients' quality of life -- but it's never been studied, she said. http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/wi...world-headlines

  12. I couldn't find that web site, at least as you had it listed on the other thread....
  13. I liked a few songs from their debut(or whatever it was) back in the 90's, but can't recall what songs they were! So, I won't defend them that hard....They do seem to have sold out nicely though....
  14. yeah, an avatar that you remember, that's for sure!
  15. That would be nice, all the guests that were on thru the years One of my fondest memories is seeing Buddy Rich play like a 20 year old on speed, even on the last show he did...would love to see those highlights again...
  16. Hope Dan and all will be safe and sound! This has just been unreal. Ivan kept me out in La for a few extra days, and most importantly, because of flooding, power outages, etc. my Mom has missed 3 radiation treatments because of what has been left of the hurricanes...and I may have mentioned it before, but think about people getting Chemo, radiation, kidney dialysis, whathaveyou in Florida that are not going to get their treatments! (And I lived in Jacksonville for 10 years, and no problems from hurricanes there.....last one in 1963)
  17. some newish tv shows on dvd... coming 9-28
  18. So are you saying that one day, we should expect this board to be similar to the AAJ board then? Jim, I don't get the fear that someone will check out the forums, dig around and see women in bikinis and freak out! How come this is a concern of yours, but threads on Cannibalism,(Truly a )and what is the most disgusting thing you have ever eaten have survived? Should Soulstation1 never make another comment about Serena's ass for fear of future visitors to this site? Well, I would argue most music including jazz is NOT political, but that is neither here nor there. Once again Jim, your board, (And as you have shown, you are all powerful! ) You can say the thread was useless, but how many threads had more posts, or views???? It had to have been in the top 5. Someone was checking it out. Aren't all the jazz articles posted copyrighted? Or the Articles posted on the political threads? I am sure some of the language used on some of the threads you wouldn't want your grandmother to read either. We still seem to have issues with the nude or nearly nude male and female body in the U.S. that you don't see in most other nations.Wasn't there a hunk thread at one time as well? (Or was that at the BN board?) I bet Goren didn't even think about the topless women posted here were "obscene". Brownie didn't like the fact I had blacked out a topless woman awhile back, I am sure many of our overseas friends think we are prudish to the extreme. If there had been another complaint like that one about the "Babe" Sangrey posted, I would understand completely. If the nudity was a problem, you could have said hey guys, stop with the nudity, or else....It just sounds like you were tired of it....and the lemmingish nature of some here bugs me. "Thanks for taking your ball home with you B, you saved us from ourselves!" Obviously, not the end of the world by any stretch, don't get me wrong, I won't lose any sleep over it. It does seem like the PC thing to do to take down the babe thread because a woman here might have a problem with a thread they don't have to check out, or someone you mention the board to....I sure as hell see more sex in most commercials I see on T.V. these days than on this thread..... Perhaps someday we should have a vote (After the election of course) for dropping the Political forum.....I can't imagine it is doing your band any favors.......and it would free up lots of time for Johnny , myself and others to post about jazz.....
  19. you are so right! Right now I am trying to find out if it's true that Abe Lincoln was born in a duplex, and not a log cabin!
  20. http://www.hslan.de/fun/iconwars.htm
  21. The guy they have playing Pete, who is it? God, he looks like he is plagued with arthritis. Sure seems like an athlete to me! Doesn't look, or sound like him either . brought to you by the people that thought John Goodman could do a credible job of playing the greatest baseball player ever.....
  22. What, is this the G rated PC board now???? Should people start watching their language as well? I am sure Shrdlu can now post his religious viewpoints without fear of any attacks on the new, improved organissimo board, Disney approved!
  23. Well, you could have at least given us a heads up on it....I would not have gone thru every page, but some of the early pages had some "classic" babe photos I would have saved on disc if I had known they wouldn't be around for a few years.....
  24. What's really funny about her doing this role, is I saw her on Leno last week, and she is totally and completely flat chested!
