I can't believe I forgot, and that no one else has mentioned, his marvelous performance in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"
-
A great actor and Clevelander The Hustler, Hud, Cool Hand Luke, Slap Shot - so many films that I am sure I am forgetting and great performances by him. And not to forget his humanitarian efforts I'll miss him.

I picked up the new Evolution RVG and the sound is just way better than the 80s domestic issue. Also got Leapin' and Lopin' and found the sound to be improved over the japanese mini-lp - strangely the RVG was actually not as bright sounding.

"Sing Me Back Home" Ny Times reporter Dana Jennings mixes analysis of his favorite country songs and artists with a recounting of his hillbilly upbringing in, believe it or not, rural New Hampshire.

I noticed today they have even more on the first floor which is generally where they keep rock music -
J&R is selling a huge number of these mini lps (K2s) - all Prestige and related label stuff- mostly classic stuff from 50s and 60s : Trane, Monk, Rollins etc. but also some 80s stuff that was released in Japan only - Kenny Drew etc. They are selling what appear to be four or five undred of these at $14.99 each. strangely - they are not in the jazz section, but yes on the jazz floor (2nd floor) near the windows that overlook City Hall Park. I am not connected with J&R - I just shop there and wanted to let interested folks know.

This may be peculiar to the DVD I want to discuss here which is the Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival 2004 DVD (by the way the 2007 is way better) At a couple of points in the concert you have the option of selecting different camera angles and a camera icon appears on screen. I am not crazy about this feature because the icon is usually covering up something I want to see. The directions for the DVD say that you can delete this feature in the "Set Up" menu - which I have tried repeatedly and it does not work. Also tried various manus on my dvd player and could not zap the icon. Took it over to a friend's house and there is no icon when played on his player. Anyone had this issue or know how to get rid of it?

It's been a while since you have been in Cleveland SS1. It has been called Progressive Field since the beginning of the season and regrettably it is not looking like there will be any Series for the Tribe this year.

My impression and that of several other NYers was that they booed or heckled every single Red Sox player except when JD Drew came through and clobbered one. And Papelbon really got razzed by the rabid Yankee fans WHILE HE IS TRYING TO DO HIS JOB (and yes I am aware of the conroversy.) Must admit I thought it was assinine, do Yankee fans hate the Red Sox so much that they want the NL team to have home field for the Series? Welcome to NY.

Yeah Guy - Have a great one

Sorry, I sold it a few weeks ago. If it's a Toyota, chances are it's a standard head unit. If it's a separate CD "deck" attached to the Toyota head unit, try the local junk yards. One of those would be easy to swap. The whole head unit take a bit more effort. No I don't think it is separate - if I understand you correctly. It is inside the dashboard along with the tape deck and radio (which work fine) fairly close together - so it may be just one unit. That's harder to replace? would have thought if it is one piece it may be easier to find the whole thing than just a cd player... by the way, thanks to everyone for your suggestions!!

This is the cd player that came with the car, so it is in the dash. Problem is that the disc just doesn't seem to load. It goes in but never plays. Is going to a dealer (Toyota) for repair smart? I generally avoid that since they are so expensive and just use a mechanic down the street. The car is 12 years old Who does replacement? Best Buy I think does it. Anyone have any suggestions would be appreciated.

Maybe I missed something - but the most bizarre thing about this account is that a gun that has just been used to kill someone is handed over to the bartender for safekeeping- then it goes into the toilet? Something rings false about this.

Maybe. But ever listen to Chuck Berry? Some of the greatest song lyrics ever written!!

I generally like Gram Parsons's output (and yes I also have plenty of Hank Williams, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard) but a few lines from his song "$1000 Wedding" always drive me nuts where he sings about a minister addressing a crowd assembled for a wedding. Here they are: The Revereand Doctor William Grace was talking to the crowd All about the sweet child's holy face and the saints who sung out loud And he swore the fiercest beasts Could all be put to sleep the same silly way And where are the flowers for the girl.... I am talking about the last two lines in italics before the bottom - WTF??? Other than that, I like the song.

Big Al I recently picked up the Keepnews and compared it to the K2 I already owned. I really can't say one is better than the other, I find the Keepnews to be leaner and more focused and the K2 is perhaps not as sharp in focus but there is something very seductive and natural sounding about the K2 for me. I will probably go with the K2. It's probably somewhat system and ear dependent as to which one you will prefer.

Happy Birthday to a guy whose posts always seem to make a lot of sense to me!

Not at all. I am not saying I am right and I usually agree with your take ... just not this time. Maybe it's just a matter of differing tastes.

I picked up Head On. Initial impressions are that the first two tracks are interesting, but it all goes down hill from there. Too much of the writing sounds cliche and Bobby's tune "Hey Harold" sounds a lot to me like Quincy Jones's theme music for the film The Pawnbroker.
