  1. I agree, But I note that they do not have any corrected copies of One Step Beyond and that is strange if the problem was fixed so long ago.
  2. any word on replacements for those of us that bought defectives?
  3. thanks Lon and Rob, These still have not shown up in NYC - I continue to check J&R and Virgin. Nothing. Welcome to New York!!
  4. Thanks BB I see DUsty Groove has the ALchemist but NOT Satanic!
  5. Bebop- Yeah but the problem with Cadence is that $6.00/ order minimum shipping charge which comes to $3.00/disc. Also for NY residents they charge tax. Anyone see a better deal on these Krivdas? strangely Amazon is offering only "Satanic" on cd - the Alchemist is MP3 download only.
  6. did these get delayed? J&R in NYC hasn't received any copies.
  7. double Lp: discs: VG Cover : G US $15.00 delivered to US address
  8. Thanks Lon, for weighing in with your thoughts!!!
  9. I see now that the '55 version of Little Melonae is on the domestic Legacy version of Round About Midnight. Does anyone know if the '58 version appears on any domestic release?
  10. Lon, How would you compare this new KOB on cd to the Japanese DSD versions? My initial listen says the japanese versions have a wider soundstage and the instruments seem a bit more spread. Maybe the image is not quite as tight on the japanese - maybe a little haze there - and the background not as quiet. But I am not sure which I prefer at this time. Anyone else have both these versions and wish to comment?
  11. thanks for letting me know, Lon. Has anyone heard yet whether a replacement disc for One Step Beyond is available?
  12. I picked up the 2 disc Legacy edition. not sure if it sounds better than the Japanese 9000 series DSD versions of KOB and 1958 Miles. One very annoying thing is that the second disc leave off the versions of "Little Melonae" which appear on my "1958 Miles" disc. While admittedly one of those tracks is actually from 55, why leave these off- they had the time even with the live track of So What.

  15. thanks Kevin Do you have any idea whether it makes sense to return this thing now or wait and do it through BLue Note? If that involves mailing it back in and complications, I would rather return it.
  16. JETman has a call in to Cuscuna. . .hopefully he'll call back. Has anyone heard yet. My version of One Step Beyond has the same issue. The second track has the different intro. Should I return it to the store or what for the fix? ANy info appreciated.
  17. THis is hard... I may forget some Some nobody has mentioned I think: Bob Marley Jack Bruce Joao Gilberto Gram Parsons Toots Hibbert Steve Winwood John Lennon Paul McCartney Little Richard Chuck Berry Ray Charles Mick Jagger Greg Allman Mercedes Sosa Country singer favorites: Willie Nelson George Jones Tammy Wynette Hank Williams Merle Haggard Patty Loveless More: Bob Dylan Sandy Denny Muddy Waters Howlin' Wolf Van Morrison BB King Otis Redding Sam Cooke Marvin Gaye Dionne Warwick Joni Mitchell Rod Stewart Levon Helm (and the other Band singers too) and I am sure I am leaving out a favorite
  18. thanks Joe for the tip and the link.
  19. My son got one of those Ibanez 3/4 size electric guitars and it is always going out of tune. This is of course, a rather inexpensive guitar- around $100. I note the the tuning pegs seem awfully easy to move - could that be the problem? Maybe a dumb question - but I thought I would give it a try.
  20. I have to agree with JSangry on this one - the definitive version for me is the live version on the Funny Valentine recording. The studio version(s) are fine - but the live one is just stunning!!! I like the Getz version too, but not as much. While instrumentalists seem to still play it - I wonder why singers today - even those that do a lot of standards from this era - never sing this song? Corny lyrics? any guesses.
  21. A marvelous musician with a tremendous legacy. THanks for the music, Freddie.
  22. Perhaps my favorite new release in a non- jazz vein is Patty Loveless's "Sleepless Nights"
  23. slightly off topic, but I thought I should mention for Krivda fans that Cadence Jazz put out a cd entitled "Live in New York City" a year or so ago from a gig that Ernie did at Sweet Rhythm a couple of years back. I think it captured the new band and this gig pretty well - I was there and so was Bebop if I remember correctly.

    Mitch Mitchell

When I was a teen pup Mitch was my drummer! Never heard a rock drummer play so creatively.. In an early interview he was quoted as saying he didn't listen to rock drummers but jazz drummers like Elvin, Philly Joe, Tony, and Max.. His work on "Manic Depression" was an obvious jazz influence.. I always thought that "Third Stone from the Sun" showed a lot of jazz influence - mostly in the first moments before it gets into the more regular groove and then later into the tune he gets the jazz groove back. Also jazzy is "Up from the Skies" too.

    Mitch Mitchell

Agreed with all the positive comments about Mitch. I never liked Band of Gypsies as much - and Mitch was probably a big reason why
