  1. My son got one of those Ibanez 3/4 size electric guitars and it is always going out of tune. This is of course, a rather inexpensive guitar- around $100. I note the the tuning pegs seem awfully easy to move - could that be the problem? Maybe a dumb question - but I thought I would give it a try.
  2. I have to agree with JSangry on this one - the definitive version for me is the live version on the Funny Valentine recording. The studio version(s) are fine - but the live one is just stunning!!! I like the Getz version too, but not as much. While instrumentalists seem to still play it - I wonder why singers today - even those that do a lot of standards from this era - never sing this song? Corny lyrics? any guesses.
  3. A marvelous musician with a tremendous legacy. THanks for the music, Freddie.
  4. Perhaps my favorite new release in a non- jazz vein is Patty Loveless's "Sleepless Nights"
  5. slightly off topic, but I thought I should mention for Krivda fans that Cadence Jazz put out a cd entitled "Live in New York City" a year or so ago from a gig that Ernie did at Sweet Rhythm a couple of years back. I think it captured the new band and this gig pretty well - I was there and so was Bebop if I remember correctly.

    Mitch Mitchell

When I was a teen pup Mitch was my drummer! Never heard a rock drummer play so creatively.. In an early interview he was quoted as saying he didn't listen to rock drummers but jazz drummers like Elvin, Philly Joe, Tony, and Max.. His work on "Manic Depression" was an obvious jazz influence.. I always thought that "Third Stone from the Sun" showed a lot of jazz influence - mostly in the first moments before it gets into the more regular groove and then later into the tune he gets the jazz groove back. Also jazzy is "Up from the Skies" too.

    Mitch Mitchell

Agreed with all the positive comments about Mitch. I never liked Band of Gypsies as much - and Mitch was probably a big reason why
  8. Have a great one Chris

    Miles

Do you remember what he said? IIRC it was pretty callous. I remember it being very respectful - I think a callous comment would have elicited a very negative response from the audience and I do not remember any such response.
  10. I know he named his group Ekaya, but I am looking the the Cd of that title.
  11. Here's what I have: 1)By Myself 2)Dancing in the Dark 3)Left Handed Complement 4)My Friend the Piano 5)Giant Strides 6)A Celebration of Hoagy Carmichael 7)Natural all of this vinyl is VG+ or better. I am looking for around US $8.00 per lp except for Natural where I am looking for $15
  12. Sorry to get off this topic, but your sentiments express what I am feeling about a lot of classic country music. Please help me I'm fallin' for it!!
  13. from their Woodstock NY base with musicians such as Karl, Don Cherry, etc. etc. Some of these recordings could be interesting.
  14. Dan I know this is not much consolation, but your team put on a hell of a show being down 3-1 in the series and that comeback in the game the other night after being down 7-0 was truly amazing. Hey, things could be worse - you could be an Indians fan. That said, my congratulations to the Rays and their fans.
  15. Up for more discussion. Lon's look interesting, but I do not like clips around my ears. And Man with the Golden Arm has a point - I hesitate to put anytning that inserts into the auditory canal. Are there any simple bud type headphones that sound good for around $30 bucks or so, I can't see how any ot these would sound as good as Grado SR-60s or am I just behind the times?
  16. I forgot to chime in about how much I was lovin' that game of course since I live in the Belly of the Beast when I wear my Browns ballcap I am in mortal danger.
  17. JSangry I just love Dionne doing Bacharach/David songs - so much great stuff there!

I was at the Village Vanguard seeing Johnny Griffin, when Griffin announced the news to the audience and there was an audible gasp!
  20. I can't believe I forgot, and that no one else has mentioned, his marvelous performance in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"
  21. A great actor and Clevelander The Hustler, Hud, Cool Hand Luke, Slap Shot - so many films that I am sure I am forgetting and great performances by him. And not to forget his humanitarian efforts I'll miss him.
  22. I picked up the new Evolution RVG and the sound is just way better than the 80s domestic issue. Also got Leapin' and Lopin' and found the sound to be improved over the japanese mini-lp - strangely the RVG was actually not as bright sounding.
  23. "Sing Me Back Home" Ny Times reporter Dana Jennings mixes analysis of his favorite country songs and artists with a recounting of his hillbilly upbringing in, believe it or not, rural New Hampshire.
  24. Proof that some people don't even read the article, let alone click on the link! Sorry man, I'm using you as an example. It says one night only in the article, but try calling the club. No offense taken 7/4 - I laughed too.
  25. J&R is now selling them for $10.99 each and still have a bunch
