  1. terrible news. He is one of my favorites.
  2. Barry's highly acclaimed method for learning to improvise is distilled into 2 x 2 hour VHS casettes that come in hard shell cases and a 100 page spiral bound booklet which contains the musical concepts written out. This is a fantastic way to learn to solo and also has great ideas for comping. It's in mint condition. It sells new for $90. I am looking for $50 plus shipping.

  4. Can you use the permanent log-in cookie on computers from 2 different locations and different email addresses?
  5. I guess I don't understand life, because while I adore the Hot 5 and 7 recordings and some other 1930's Armstrong stuff, I can not stomach any of his post 1930's work. Anything with that Middleton woman, I find to be just silly and demeaning to Louis's artistry- so I don't buy it. I have owned the "California Concerts" and several All Star recordings and have sold them all. Didn't like the WC Handy and other supposed later classics. Nothing wrong with Louis's playing of course, it's just the context. But don't touch my Hot 5 and 7's box, thank you.
  6. thanks Rooster and vajerzy!!
  7. Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!
  8. Not sure if this is allowed. are people posting from both home and office for example.
  9. I have a couple and want to label the spine. Mine are those "cloth" ones not the "leather" ones. Any good ideas from you guys?
  10. Thanks everyone for all your help on that one.
  11. Anyone know? I think it was 89 or maybe 90 or 91? if anyone knows the exact date of the airing of that program, please let me know.
  12. I have one sort of interesting Johnny Griffin story. I was watching his gig at the Village Vanguard when Griffin announced to the audience that Miles Daves had died. There was an audible gasp in the room... then Griffin played a Miles tune.
  13. I found this book to be very disappointing and after reading it, decided to sell my copy. I haven't missed it at all.
  14. Someone above mentioned the Omega tapes - I think these are issued by Blue note as the "Aladdin Sessions" as a subtitle with real titles like Modern Art, the Art of Pepper, etc. These are great. These are my faves along with those great Contemporary dates. I don't like too much of his stuff after that, although some of the Galaxy live stuff is nice.
  15. I have a mint copy. It's four cds, the booklet and box. $150.00 plus shipping.
  16. I checked my balance knob and it is directly in the center. I only hear the emphasis on the left channel on "tune up" - the rest seem very equally balanced and on one track it seemed the right channel was stronger.
  17. That's strange that everyone's mentioning problems with the right channel. My RVG shows no such problem- at least on all the tracks that are more than 2 instruments.
  18. It's the pre RVG Japanese version, so all you RVG haters will love it. $20.00 plus shipping.
  19. My first concert of any sort was the Beatles in Cleveland, OH in Aug. 1966. First jazz concert was the Mahavishnu Orchestra in the early seventies, can't remember the year, but they were playing stuff from the Inner Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire. both concerts were fantastic.
  20. Actually I don't think it's so odd. I adore Stitt, but I have always found this one to be oddly unsatisfying. It doesn't make my top 10 Stitt recordings.
  21. It's the Leonard Feather book in hardcover and the book is in mint condition. The dust cover is torn up a bit. Looking for $25.00
  22. I like this Jonathan Kreisberg and his Nine Stories Wide cd on Criss Cross.
  23. "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs" is the Chick Corea date on Solid State. It has the gatefold cover. ($20.00) "Andrew!!!" Hill of course, is a blue note from Liberty Records and features John Gilmore on tenor. ($25.00) Both LPs are near mint. Shipping is extra, but if you're in the NYC metro area we can meet.
  24. the one with Ben Webster - love that one.

    POETRY

Dr. J, I assume you have the Getz cd entitled "The Master" where Getz and Dailey team up again, but this time it's with other musicians too, don't remember whether it's a quartet or quintet date. I like this one too. Different feel than Poetry, but very good.
