Last week the Times reported that Ornette Coleman is to receive the Dorothy and Lillian Gish prize which consists of $250,000 and a silver medal for his artistic achievements.
The ceremony is October 14th at Lincoln Center and ironically the presenter of the award will be Wynton Marsalis.

I picked up a copy of this yesterday. On an initial listening, it may be slightly better sonically than the box set, but there's not a huge difference.
I am somewhat apprehensive about having posted on the Politics forum. To say the least, I don't exactly feel like my opinions are shared by many - although I'll bet many have the wrong idea about where I stand on a lot of issues.
I wonder if I am making enemies which I certainly don't want to do. Sometimes I surprise myself with the comments I make and I am disappointed with myself when I get a bit on the harsh side.
And I notice that I haven't been able to sell anything on the Offering and Looking For forum since I started posting in Politics - well maybe that's the proof.
I went to the exact audio copy site and it appears that there are several programs to download depending on your computer or your software- or did I misread it?
I am not too savvy on computers, can anyone give me some guidance on this?
my favorite working jazz band. I note with some discomfort how the cover charge at the Vanguard keeps inching up - more than double when I first started going. Still it's my favorite jazz club.
Hadn't listened to this one in a while and the other day I picked up my old copy to see if I wanted to upgrade.
What struck me most is that the first two tunes(Soul Surge and Cunga Black) are sort of full of cliches and the rhythm section drags, too bad because I love Joe Hen.
Then you get to Outer Forces, Blues Spirits, and Jodo with the different personnel in the rhythm section and wow - it's suddenly very lively and engaging--- the reason??????I am giving most of the credit for that to my man PETE LAROCA!!!!!!!!!!!
Rainy Day,
I hear you man. Come on the NYC subways and platforms. Some are ridiculously filthy. And what I have observed people doing with their food and garbage-yuck. Yeah, what about my right not to be surrounded by foul smelling trash.
I notice the DC Metro is about 100 times cleaner and more pleasant than NYC - we could use a bit of that. I'll happily trade transit sytem rules with you DC residents who complain.
On the other hand, the handcuffs seem a bit over the top.
I'm a big fan, saw them live in the early 70s and got the box, have just heard the first 2 discs and so far, so good.
I think they were one of the greatest bands in rock, very underrated,as is Rod Stewart.
