  1. http://exposed.ethanwiner.com/ate.htm Warning: This is not for children or prudes. And I didn't post it. I assume it's related to the recent Las Vegas Consumer Electronics show, though I haven't traced it back "to source".
  2. Took the verbs right out of my mouth. Bummer. Even with the subterrarian location, rent couldn't have been cheap.
  3. Right arm!
  4. You lug yours (and your LPs) around the world with you? LOL Must be a bitch to plug it in in Addis Abbaba. Wouldn't that be something. As I think of it, I don't think I've ever had a thread here dedicated to the BEBOP ANNUAL VINYL ORGY. Once a year, I am reunited with my collection. And my wife. Man, I spin a lot of records...while I reload my MP3 players. One year, I did a 'play by play' (literally) at...what...BlueNote or JazzCentralStation or someplace. I had a good time. And it is all about me! Usually, this is around Christmas. But with all the sh*t going on this year, didn't happen. Maybe in the spring?
  5. Am I too late for the party? Happy Birthday!
  6. My compromise is "on" but "down" when playing. I found it was more susceptible to picking up vibrations (sound waves?) when in the "up" position. Could have just been my 'tables (Sota Star Sapphire and, before that, a Rega Planar 3).

  8. I didn't mean to be disparaging about BRO overall. Just a lot of "chaff" among the jazz (and classical) "wheat". I do like their classical offerings; I'm not terribly sohpisticated, and they meet ("met", back when I was buying) my needs. And I know they've got Telarcs and Music and Arts and others.
  9. Not unusual, in my experience, though I haven't ordered from them since nearly their entire stock turned "Andorran". That said, still some decent "legit" issues to be found there.
  10. Hey! Happy! Birthday! Hey!
  11. I've got four 30GB Zunes* and a 30GB Creative xTra. (After having too many Creatives die, I've sworn off the brand. And I won't buy Apple. Or Starbucks.) Thought seriously about that Cowan, since I'm not a Microsoft fan either, but the Zunes have served me well. (Server-ed me?) Built in radio and wireless. Never really considered flash drives. They were too small when I last shopped, and my players haven't ever skipped. I've had a couple 'drop and die', though. * They frequently get confiscated at international borders.
  12. If you lost your voice for the same reason as I did, the answer is divorce. Sorry, not helpful. Get better soon.
  13. In two weeks, my most recent sick day will have been 20 years ago, when I was hit by a car and unconscious. Even my recent broken elbow, wrists (plural), coccyx and dislocated shoulder didn't get me any time off. Okay, I'm stupid; remarkably healthy too. And my most-of-the-time-employer (I do mainly contract work) is aggressive in enforcing work ethic. I don't work, I don't get paid. How's that for incentive? Unfortunately, I work with a lot of people who seem to get Monday and Friday illnesses, And they make no apologies or excuses. Nor do they disguise their activities. They're (in a neutral way) shameless. So what does that do to my efficiency?
  14. Seeing the name "rockefeller center" makes me think of the Manhattan equivalent to losing Stacey's: losing Strand.
  15. I saw this and wept. I'll miss Stacey's. Tonight, I'm going to the local bookstore (Aunties, Spokane, WA) and buy something...in support, in solidarity or in mourning. I won't be able to take my purchase with me when I leave town, but I'm going to leave a few bucks here, in Aunties' pockets.
  16. (01-07) 02:36 PST Spokane, Wash. (AP) -- More than 6 feet of snow in the past three weeks has left Spokane residents frustrated. Tempers are so frayed that a man was arrested for shooting at a snow plow operator. This unusually harsh winter has disrupted schools, traffic, garbage pickup and mail service in the city of 200,000. Roofs are collapsing, streets are clogged with ice and slush and locals are starting to refer to this as Sno-maggedon. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?.../a023638S81.DTL If you dropped in on my thread about slipping on ice, breaking both wrists, one elbow, dislocating a shoulder, injuring my coccyx, now you know "why?"
  17. I thought you've been saying for years that you no longer buy recorded music? And here I always envied you for leading a clutter-free existence. What a let down. Read carefully: a Christmas "gift" order!
  18. Is there a comprehensive list of stuff Chuck is selling? Dare I ask?
  19. Aha - the magic word 'Wilen'. Add two zeros to the price ! The same seems to happen with Michel Roques, though there is also a higher scarcity factor.
  20. Although it's been played, many times, many ways, Dex-ter Gor-don's for you.
  21. Downtown Music Gallery and Cadence haven't been able to fill my 'gift' order (supposed to be for Christmas). CD Baby doesn't list. Anyone had any luck lately?
  22. Thanks for all the information and well-wishes. I've actually had a knee and a hip replacement in the past, so perhaps it was the fresh-from-the-hospital drugs that had me excited about the prospect of pins n' screws. (Actually, I have pins holding together my collarbones; they've never given me any trouble, other than at airport x-rays, so I've never paid them any attention. But as some have noted, they're not in a joint.) For now, my fears are under control. so thanks to all who posted.
  23. Shattered one elbow and one wrist today. (Apparently, the other wrist is only badly sprained.) Ulnar nerve damage, and something happened to my coccyx that is causing pressure on the spinal cord. Treatment for elbow is screws to hold it together. Pins for the wrist. Anyone had this done? Recovery time? Unanticipated hassles? Recommendations? I trust y'all a lot more than the hypochondriacs who "have a friend who...." on the other boards. Thanks.
  24. I don't listen daily, only when I'm in the US or when I have a high-speed connection overseas (say five months a year), but I really don't think you're too far afield. Playlists: http://www.wfmt.com/main.taf?erube_fh=wttw...=12%2F30%2F2008
