  1. Happy birthday to ya!
  2. These birthday greetings sent from my mobile phone, somewhere around the Continental Divide in Colorado, en route Denver to Elko. Wish you were here...har, har. All the best!
  3. Birthday. Happy. Not necessarily in that order.
  4. Have a great one, Chuck!
  5. Some people like Blue Mitchell, but EVERYONE, it seems, likes Conn. Welcome back 'round.
  6. Just checking the latest posts here, too damn many people dying in the past day or few.
  7. I opened this thread cautiously...and...damn. Buddy, rest in peace. Buddy was always nice to me, even when I embarassed us both - sadly more him than me. Nice cat.
  8. Fitness...and it's unfortunate partner, exercise.
  9. We'd BOTH win! He'd win because he knows how to play basketball. I'd win because, despite the fact I don't know how to play, I'd win based on whatever I decided was the object of the game.
  10. Any comment on this one? I'm passionate about early Bird. I suspect I've got most of the music, but few of the interviews. Anything previously unissued? Interestingly, it's $50 on the ESP website and $90 at Amazon. http://www.espdisk.com/official/catalog/4050.html Charlie Parker – Bird in Time: 1940-1947” is a unique four disc set produced by Bebop Jazz Historian Michael D. Anderson. This set chronicles the early developmental stages of the career of the artist from 1940 to the fall of 1947. This includes his performances in the Jay McShann band, his work as a sideman, collaborations with trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, as well as his leadership of various groups. In addition to select recordings, the four disc set includes unique interviews by Mr. Anderson with artists who performed with Charlie Parker, or "Bird" as they knew him, describing in detail their experiences with him during this period of time. These interviews provide, for the first time, a glimpse into the creative process that was engaged in making these song tracks. This is a "must have" for serious Charlie Parker music collectors.
  11. Would it help to, instead, have a link to an existing snippet at Amazon, CDBaby, AllMusic or somewhere else? I suppose not for material that isn't in-print.
  12. So, where's Hamburg? ...though it does explain Vienna.
  13. Vancouver, yes. The rest...uhhhhh...not for me.
  14. I'll second that!
  15. Any updates? I'm hip to Dazzle and El Chapultepec, having been to both several years ago. And KUVO radio. Don't really plan to do any shopping, but might drop in at a shop or two to pick up free newspapers with music listings and a magazine or two. And to chat up the counter staff, if we both have a couple of minutes to waste. Twist and Shout? Cheapo? Second Spin? Jerrys? Independent? It's pretty rare for me to have even a couple of hours off these days, so I want to take maximum advantage of any 'windfall'.
  16. That's what I want for my birthday. I want to be 30 again. Please, just for a day. Niko - enjoy!
  17. I hope it's a great one!
  18. I think Vogue also (re)issued some of the old Gene Norman concerts, as well as Frank Morgan's first outing (1955).
  19. Happy birthday!!
  20. Sonny Simmons and Dupree Bolton playing on the streets of San Francisco. Pleasant memories of youth. If only my co-workers had been a bit more receptive to/tolerant of Simmons.
  21. I'm sure I'll like this when it gets reissued. (Hurry up, Hat!) For now, I can't afford it. Or at least I can't justify the price, with a reissue promised soon.
  22. If my memory hasn't entirely failed, I have a recording featuring Will Bill Davison that I like quite a bit. (Haven't heard it in quite a while, which is where the 'memory' part comes in.)
  23. I like all that 'classic' stuff too. But I also enjoy the M'Boom material. "Live at SOB's" is on my MP3 player.
  24. I'm not hip to any of the controversy. It's not why I come here (unless we're debating the 'worth' of a particular recording or concert). If Chris is gone, that's a bummer, and I wish him contentment and happiness wherever he goes. Peace.
  25. Ain't that a...uh...Brew? Right about now, I wish I could listen to the Toshiko Akyoshi/Barney Wilen meeting.
