  1. We're not 'singing different songs' here. It's supply and demand, an equation that makes profits (and losses) possible. To grossly simplify, if no one wanted gas, or if it was available in unlimited quantity, it would be free. You say "greed"; I say (possible) supply manipulation; potato/potahto.
  2. I see you as more of a 'harp player. ...but what do I know
  3. There really aren't any explanations other than supply and demand. Now one could argue that supply is being manipulated... (I'm not making that argument.) One could also argue that demand is manipulated (by government subsidies and taxes.)
  4. By the way, KUNV, 91.5FM http://kunv.unlv.edu/

  6. Hey, hey. Happy B-Day!
  7. Thanks. I needed that.
  8. First Choice - another outlier: Charlie Parker - The Complete Birth Of The Bebop (Stash STCD 535) Second Choice: the frequently-mentioned Bird/Maggie/Wardell sessions
  9. Thanks, especially for general reaction to my concern about vocals. Lots of sessions show Eldridge or others "vcl", but I couldn't tell how many tracks were affected.
  10. Just got an e-mail. I've been reluctant to pick this up; how many vocals?
  11. Okay, how DO I make this full-size?
  12. I could swear that I have a Count Basie album with the man's head poking out of a bag, but I can't find an image on the web. Ah! It's there now, in the first post of this thread. I couldn't see it before.
  13. I'm having trouble seeing some of the images, so excuse me if this has already been posted. (I did see the other Mariachi cover.)
  14. http://www.jazzhouse.org/ (Sorry, couldn't get cut-n-paste to work)
  15. Luis Gasca website: http://www.luisgasca.net/ I guess the album referred to on the list is this one: Álbum: “For Those Who Chant” Luis Gasca - trumpet, flugelhorn Joe Henderson - tenor sax Carlos Santana - guitar Neal Schon - guitar Mark Levine - piano Stanley Clarke - bass Lenny White - drums Victor Pantoja - conga Michael Carabello - conga Coke Escovedo – timbales
  16. Luis Gasca? I've got at least one Gasca album*, but I remember him most for his participation in the Richie Cole Alto Madness shenanigans. He was called, I believe, Johnny Spain. But how he got on someone's RADAR screen and, thereafter, onto this list...? * I haven't seen it in years, but I think it's got a composite picture of his face, made up of thousands of nubile women. How many albums has he got? Allmusic shows four; I guess mine's called "Collage". None seem to have been reviewed. And there's no bio.
  17. Diesel - $5.61 Good thing I'm just in the U.S. for a day. (I don't drive anywhere else.)
  18. But look at the range of stuff Zawinul did - Miles, Cannon, Weather Report, Syndicate, Ben Webster, Dinah...
  19. Okay, if not Zawinul, who? (Just playing devil's advocate here.)
  20. From Mojo magazine, December 2007: Joe Zawinul was the most important European in the history of jazz. Agree? Disagree?
  21. Second most fantastic, but who's counting.
  22. That's the one!
  23. Looking forward to this one...just like I was looking forward to the previous CD, I s'pose. How'd I miss the Arno Marsh connection up until now?
  24. Hey, how 'bout an update? Just looking at your upcoming gigs and see several CD Release shows in July. That's, like, next month. So.... Do I need to head to Kalamazoo?
