Happy Joe Birthday!
-
I don't visit jazzcorner often - every month or two. Is it still out there? I can't get in. Ah, no biggie.
-
I go in the chat room all the time. Just to be alone. It's peaceful in there. Sometimes - I hate to admit it - I talk to myself. (Did anyone see the New Yorker comic, April 7th - a guy walking his dog who says to him "who are you going to listen to, the voices in your head or your best friend?")

Clark Terry and Louis Bellson in Las Vegas 25 April
BeBop replied to BeBop's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Just back from the gig, and let's just say the Las Vegas Sun played a little joke on us that didn't leave me in stitches. (A little embroidery pun.) Still an interesting event. It was Bellson only, no Clark Terry. And it was a meet and greet, no music (except on the boombox.) A small crowd - about 20. Plenty of opportunity to shake the man's hand and say 'thanks'. Glad I went. Got a plane to catch now. -
Clark Terry and Louis Bellson in Las Vegas 25 April
BeBop replied to BeBop's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I feel fortunate to be passing through Las Vegas (never thought I'd say that!) at the same time as these two. So I will be there. Sadly, not much jazz in Las Vegas these days. And the best record store has closed. -
From the April 24th Las Vegas Sun Octogenarian music legends jazz up a Las Vegas embroidery store By Jerry Fink Thu, Apr 24, 2008 (2 a.m.) Jazz legends Louie Bellson and Clark Terry will perform one of their more unusual gigs this week — at EmbroidMe, a store that features custom embroidery, screen printing and promotional products. Drummer Bellson, 83, and trumpeter Terry, 87, will be promoting their new CD, “The Louie and Clark Expedition 2.” Bellson, a composer, arranger, bandleader and jazz educator, is credited with pioneering the use of two bass drums. He has performed with almost every major name in jazz history, including Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Tommy Dorsey and Lionel Hampton. Clark has played trumpet for such legends as Count Basie and Duke Ellington Details: 4 p.m. Friday; EmbroidMe, 8174 S. Las Vegas Blvd. (near Food4Less); free; 453-8004

Just landed in San Francisco, California and headed North for two days of work. Chevron in Mendocino - $4.88. Still, a whole lot less than I paid last week (obviously outside the US) Cross reference to the How's the Weather Thread: 28 this morning in Napa Valley

BeBop replied to vibes's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I've got enough recorded jazz. Can you post a list of stuff Mrs. Vibes is selling? -
Just add me to your "ignore" list.

If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, think what a couple of cannonballs would do. Speedy recovery and happy listening.

IT'S A GIRL, YAY!!!!! (Pt. II!)
BeBop replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Congratulations!!! -
Absolutely agree on the site design. How about a search feature, guys? I was pretty disappointed with the jazz selection on my last visit to Radioactive. Really made me miss All Books.

Just thought I'd boost this back into public view. Seems like every record store 'round here was celebrating, mainly in the form of dicsounts and live music.

As I've alluded to somewherre in this thread, 20% off doesn't really make Borders competitive, and I'd far rather support a local. (To be honest, I've never bought anything with a coupon at Borders, and I haven't bought ANYTHING there in a decade or more.) But I can see the coupon being of some value to a guy in Modesto California (Do they have a Borders there? Stockton has one, but they also have a Rasputins. Sorry, I digress)

From a follow-up e-mail... Wonder if someone is reading the Organissimo boards. ---------- We are very sorry, we left off a crucial piece of information with regard to the HAT sale. The sale items are to be ordered from a selected group. A list of all items in that group can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/3r8fhq We left neglected to include this link in the previous message. From an e-mail. Reference to "these Hat titles" is vague - nothing listed in e-mail. So check the database. So who's up for 20+ Hats? ---------------------- Massive Hat Sale: 50% (or more!) off already reduced prices. Buy 10 or more of any of these Hat titles and take an equal quantity FREE. No other discounts apply - but our Flat Rate shipping does. So now is a good time to load up on this premium label for yourself or as gifts. This is all new, unmarked material. Stocks are good but limited to what's on hand. Immediate shipping - as usual. Shopping note: Your card will not be charged when you place an online order. When we get your order we will charge you for the lowest cost items first and you will get the higher cost items at no charge. Yes, that is correct, the pricing advantage goes to you, not us. New radio stations carrying Night Lights
BeBop replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
Dang, what'd I do? As I travel about the US, I hear Parlocha everywhere. I hope that someday I can experience the phenomenon with Night Lights. -
The Turrentine is the companion issue to "A bluish bag". The two CDs contain all of the tracks issued on the LPs "New time shuffle" and sides 1 & 2 of "Stanley Turrentine" (the black twofer), plus (on "Bluish") the non-rejected cuts from an unissued session of 9 June '67 and (on "Prodigal") four (inc 1 alt take) of the seven cuts from an unissued session of 28 July 1967 - the last session Alfred Lion supervised. MG These are excellent sessions with incredibly tasty Duke Pearson charts. Stan is the primary soloist but there are nice moments for everyone else involved. But Stan's mastery and Pearson's excellent arrangements are the real stars here. Thank you both.

Looks like someone didn't pay his/her bills and had his/her URL repossessed.
