  1. Just glad to hear that you and your monkey don't have, shall we say, a shared secret to hide.
  2. I don't 'do' chesse, but otherwise, this sounds fantastic. Could you express mail some to El Salvador? Oh, and no butter in/on those croissants. I know, picky, picky.
  3. Reserve a spot, off-airport, with shuttle. http://www.parkingcompany.com/NewReservation.aspx
  4. Too funny. In a tragic way, of course...
  5. Why is it not surprising the the Chet is in rougher shape than the others? Life imitates life. (No reflection on this particular offering.)
  6. That'd defeat the Witness Protection Program. You obviously meant Jim, not Joe here. Many apologies. I think I was the guy on meth. I really do know better.
  7. Nice show last night at Andy's in Chicago. Joe played some nice licks that seemed to really grab the attention of the thinking-folk in the audience. (As always there were a few in the house for reasons other than listening.) Joe had them tapping their feet and scratching their heads; three people asked me 'what's that thing he's playing?'. I think they were looking for the monkey with the cup. And Randy absolutely slayed (proper English?) 'em with a tuneful solo. Hope our paths cross again.
  8. I've been kicked out of a few gyms for sweating during aerobic/anaerobic exercise. (Not profusely; just sweating.) And once I was kicked out of a national Olympic training center for doing so.

  10. I Encountered Dex on the street once too. Before I even saw him, I recognized him by his laugh-like utterance. Another time, I saw Dex and Jessica Williams together; quite a sight. Also saw Red Rodney several times when he was wearing the military uniform around San Francisco. The meaning of this all was lost on me. Getting back to the thought I didn't express very well in my original post: musicians don't make much of a lasting visual impression on me, even if I see them in magazines or CD covers. By the way: Chuck's Petrucciani joke (I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt here) was truly cringe-inducing.
  11. Put a horn in his/her mouth or sticks in his/her hands and there are plenty of musicians I'd recognize. But I can't think of more than a few - all people I've seen live - that I'd ever recognize on the street. I don't watch TV, videos, movies or anything. CD covers are of some, but limited, use, since not many feature head-on artist photos. A lot of the colorful people in the music world - Diz, Monk - are gone. So what about you? Could you pick Omar Avital out of a line-up?

    Sonny Cohn dies

I didn't realize that he had been active so recently. I'd heard him with the Basie band (before 1984) and, frankly, wasn't sure he was still 'with us'. An enjoyable player.
  13. I can only echo the well-deserved praise.
  14. Following up on my earlier comment about buying a CD and, part and parcel, receiving the rights to dispose of it, by sale or otherwise... When I buy a CD, I see part of the value/price of the CD as my right to sell it. If the law said I couldn't sell it (or if there was no market), the CD would be worth less to me. (Note: not worthless, worth less.)
  15. When someone purchases a CD (or car or book or...) he or she also obtains the right to dispose of that item by gift or sale (presuming no contract or other agreement prohibit or inhibits). The creator gets compensated at this point and is not party to future transactions. (Just as GM doesn't get additional payment when you resell your Corvette.) Additing a broker (record store) to future transactions doesn't change anything.
  16. http://illasounds.podomatic.com/ The lineups look great.
  17. Wayne Shorter - The All-Seeing FBI Freddie Roach - Mo' Arugula Johnny Coles - Little Kenny G Jackie Mac - Pickle Sonance
  18. Jimmy Smith - Darn! (I know, Verve, but I couldn't resist.)
  19. Andrew Hill - Passing Wind
  20. Blakey/Messengers - Night in Toledo
