  1. Happy birthday, 2013!
  2. It shows up for me. Make sure you're searching across all sub-forums. It's in the Artists sub-forum. If you search Forums, it's on about the bottom of the second page. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&andor_type=&sid=ead32f15763b7655266a6f59a6a801e0&search_app_filters[forums][sortKey]=date&search_app_filters[forums][sortKey]=date&search_term=Grateful&search_app=forums&st=25
  3. I wouldn't guess that this is about improving things as jazz lovers experience them. The best possible outcome I might anticipate is that the company stays alive and keeps selling stuff longer than it otherwise might. But this PE firm is really all about intellectual property. I can't picture them doing a heap of recording and new issues.
  4. I saw the headline and figured immediately it had to be a private equity firm. (I follow the industry closely and know they current investing propensities.) As acquring firms go, Wood Creek is likely to be a better "friend to music lovers" than the "lever up and dismantle" crews, but I remain cautious. A bit of, I guess, good news... From the press release: Glen Barros will remain in his post as Concord’s President & CEO after the transaction. Norman Lear, Concord’s current Chairman, will remain closely involved with the Company as Chairman Emeritus. In working collaboratively with the Wood Creek team, Concord’s management plans to expand its efforts to deliver great value and service to its investors, artists, employees and customers.
  5. Nice quote. When you say you have similar feelings about music, is that playingn listening or something else? I have a non-specific memory of some musician likening improvisation to a high wire. It's the thrill of being up there, vulnerable, completely on your own.. A thrill indeed! And it's why blowing over an Aebersold rhythm section is a whole 'nother thing than having a real P, B & D.
  6. I can live with the digital files, as long as they are stored on a compact disc and placed in a numbered black box with a big picture book. ;-)
  7. A bit late last year. A couple of hours early this year. Wishing you all the best!
  8. I don't care so much HOW they do it, but...
  9. Thanks for the descriptions. It sounds interesting, so I'll look for an opportuity to view. Mainly, I wanted to make sure it wasn't some old film clip of Dex and Wardell and Teddy Edwards and Sonny Criss on stage at the Club Alabam...which would have had me scrambling to an internet cafe somewhere.
  10. I can't watch youtube. Could you describe in a sentence or two what this is? I have a lot of interest in the topic, so I might have to find an alternative way to access the youtube.
  11. Asda, a British retailer owned by Wal-Mart Group (NYSE: WMT), is considering a bid for bankrupt HMV, according to The Telegraph. Restructuring firm Hilco also is expected to bid, having already purchased HMV’s debt. Deloitte is managing the process. www.hmv.com
  12. Joe/Al! Hope you have a GREAT one. Yet another year, no Joe. Wishing you the best anyway. Anyone know what became of Al? Long time no hear. Have a great one, wherever you are.
  13. Multiple celebrations, indeed. But enjoy YOUR day, Free For All!
  14. One more "good wish". I hope it's a great one.
  15. With jungle gyms like this, no wonder it's a swingin' place.
  16. BeBop Member Since 06 Apr 2003 I guess I lurked for a month.
  17. It's veritable jungle of Jims here. Some more praiseworthy than others.
  18. Wait. What's that creaking noise I hear... Happy Birthday!
  19. I can't begin to count the money it's cost* me in recorded music purchases, concert tickets...but it's all been worth it. * and saved
  20. Another educator of some reknown (that I heard about from multiple sources while in Alabama) was Fess Whatlety. "Among his famous students were Herman Blount (Sun Ra), Sammy Lowe, Cleveland Eaton, James L. Lowe, Herman Grimes, Murray Harper, C. Julian Parrish, Walter H. Blythe, Wilson Driver, J. B. Sims, and Edward A. Brown"
  21. In 2011, I went back to my (and John Handy's and Michael White's...Frank Robinson's, Bill Russell's) old high school. Converted from public to some special charter. Certainly no more than a shell of the dynamic (in the best and worst senses of the word, I suppose) place it once was. Its website talks about being "founded in 2005"; talk about losing your roots/history!
  22. Thanks Jim. I did get an e-mail. I just can't download. That's MY problem, not yours. The only computer I have is a work computer and it's totally locked-down. No e-mail, Facebook, You Tube, Twitter... It's a miracle that I can get to the organissimo boards!
  23. Has anyone seen this in a store somewhere? San Francisco, New York or Seattle would be ideal, since they're all on my near-term itinerary, though I'm passing through Chicago and Denver too. I don't/can't download, and I'm never in once place (predictibly) long enough to mail order.
  24. Big Birthday, Big Al!
