I was surprised not to find a Seattle thread, unless I just missed it. I've got a month or more of work here. The likelihood of getting an hour or few off is small - though I did manage to catch Janiva Magness and Jim Alfredson on my last trip through. If a free moment does arise, It'd be great to have a plan. I know the place a little, having attended University of Washington back in a previous century. Jazz Alley's still around; Bud's Records isn't. I guess I see this as a general purpose thread for any recommendations people have. Seattle's popular and relatively interesting. I imagine I'm not the only one passing through. Record your wisdom here.

In terms of pace-relative-to-the-beat, I'd nominate Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis. A significant part of the time, I have stop and really concentrate to determine if he's on the beat, lagging or leading. Part of it is his articulation, which can seem to place a given note in a couple of spots. Another who could play with pace is Clark Terry. His articulation - again - seems to taunt the beat, rather than directly address it.

And here comes BeBop, chiming in a day late. Best belated wishes. Or really early for 2013.

All the best, John. Make it great!

In a sense, this is the height of ridiculous. I don't believe in Black Friday (or Cyber Monday); I don't buy really...anything anymore. But I'm plowing through my e-mail. Oldies.com, famous as the seller (liquidator?) of the Fantasy and various Concord-affiliated labels for the past few year is still at it. 10% off and free shipping at $49. That puts the average "Fantasy Warehouse Sale" CD at $4.48-$5.38. and there are still 951 on offer. CDandLP.com is offering 5% off its only-if-you're desparate prices with coupon code BLACKFRIDAY2012. ImportCDs.com just endedf its 10% off sale. Let's see if they up the ante. (I do like the merchant.) Amoeba and Amoeba.com have combo Record Store Day/Black Friday offerings and a shopping spree contest. Brick and mortar store food donations. PopMarket goes for the hour-by-hour deals. Miles ay 6:00AM. Website says EDT (Eastern Daylight TIme) Presumably, they mean Standard Time, since Daylight Time is so last month.

Happy Birthday! -
I was there most recently in August. Unfortunately all work and no play. Still a pleasant place to have a cup of coffee and pretend to be wealthy.

Absolutely. It's they only way they'll survive/prosper. And surely putting the music of Max and Clifford in more hands is a great thing. -
Belated? Don't tell me I be-late again. Hope it was a great one.

Surprise new Brown/Roach Mosaic available now
BeBop replied to colinmce's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Some merchants - not necessarily Mosaic, but not necessarily not Mosaic - seem to realize there are sales to be made in the faddish vinyl market. Get while the gettin's good. How many labels are putting out Blue Note reissues on vinyl these days? -
Wishing you a very happy birthday!

Thanks for the price check. I should have been more diligent. -

Happy Birthday 2012, GA! Frankly, I've no idea what the Canadian League is, but if you enjoyed listening to it last year, live it up again!

Thank you, goodbye and rest peacefully.

I usually stay in Jersey City when I'm working in Manhattan. This time, no way. Sorry you have to make that trek, but glad you got power back.

Four days of trying, I finally made it to Manhattan, apparently before the work I was to do disappeared.
