  1. ...if there is anyone that thinks they are that cool, it's Kurt!!!
  2. I would say the cat has a nice voice but a little too dramatic in the way his sings/moves for my taste...! That said, I have no recordings of his. m~

HotHouse http://www.hothouse.net/ ), Green Mill (http://www.greenmilljazz.com/phpBB2/cal_view_month.php?month=10&year=2006&category=&sid=f682f21dc23972c8690170dacc5974a9), Jazz Showcase http://www.jazzshowcase.com/shows.html )and the Velvet Lounge ( http://www.velvetlounge.net/ ) (open just around the corner from the old Velvet) to name a few; I'll touch base with you later (I'm on my way to the airport in 30 seconds); I'll see if I can get into Chicago that week; maybe we can meet! 4. I spoke to Freddie a couple years ago and I believe he said he was living in LA at that time. m~
  5. I still think Vonski qualifies, as does Fred Anderson. True heroes of Chicago! ...as well as Robert Shy and Willie Pickens.
  6. ...doesn't change my life any but a remarkable run.
  7. Probably astonished to find himself fielding intelligent questions for a change! Well.....you say that and I told myself I shouldn't post this one as soon as I shot it......but I couldn't resist! m~
  8. Larry is the guy on the right!
  9. Lee also came out on stage to perform one tune with Lovano's group re-visiting "Birth of the Cool".....very nice!
  10. ...and one of Lee performing with his Nonet at the festival.

  15. As many of you know, Larry Kart did a excellent interview with Lee Konitz this past week prior to a short solo performance by Lee. Here are a few images from the performance. m~
  16. Someone mentioned a turn for the worse at the Chicago Jazz Fest this past weekend....may have been Lovano, not sure. m~

I don't know but I do know Joshua was with his dad when he passed away. m~
  18. I've been gone an entire week and this pissing match is still going strong....amazing!!! m~
  19. Joe and Wayne made it clear in several conversations I had with them and to the crowds at the Showcase each night that they will be moving.....NOT closing! Their final performance at this time will be New Years Eve of this year! m~

    Dewey Left Town!

Joe Lovano announced this at the Chicago Jazz Festival on Saturday night, very sad. I was part of a three way conversation with Matt Wilson and another photographer at the festival last night and he said he had been up to visit Dewey the morning he passed; he was bummed! Here are the last couple images I made of Dewey a short time ago! m~
  22. I thought Baker's in Detroit held claim to the title of "oldest continually running Jazz club"... ...maybe Joe believes it to be!! Actually, I think there was some who say Baker's was not really a working jazz club for some of those years. m~
  23. I had some personal conversations about this with Joe's son Wayne a few weeks ago and was asked not to discuss it publicly but since the article is out I guess I can discuss a little of it. They have their eyes on a couple locations but last I heard, nothing in stone. After getting some details on their current situation / rising rent and so on, probably a good time to re-locate. They have lots of ideas to make the Showcase better....and I have no doubt they will!!! m~
  24. I've picked up many books from them, rarely any music. Poor selection for the most part. Mark~
