  1. .....at the Jazz Showcase Nice show with Fathead playing many standards by Ellington, Pearson, Mobley and others. Local rhythm section of Ron Perillo on piano, Marlene Rosenburg on bass and Robert Shy on drums. Also Wayne Segal's 50th Birthday; got to stick around for cake and catered dinner from Joe's Bebop Cafe....fun times! m~
  2. Thanks Jason, I'll be in town on business that day and will attend/photograph the show in Millennium Park as well as the Charles McPherson show at the Showcase....may stop by the Velvet as well.....it's gonna be a late night! Blake is coming into town as well.....any other board members gonna be around??? m~
  3. ....now back to more talk about the Yankees and R.Sox
  4. ...didn't even think to look. I'll be back there in a couple weeks, I'll check it out! Long live Fred Anderson!!! m~ ps, sitting in the lot where the "old" Velvet was is now the retail office for the new condos! Those that haven't been in the area in a couple years wouldn't recognize it!
  5. I think I'm going to open a club with great acoustics, that don't have a drink minimum and seats about 10-12 people.....I'm sure I can pack it every night of the week!!! m~
  6. I stopped in the other day while in town....the big difference to me is it's going to be non-smoking. As a non-smoker, I'm cool with this. Glad to see Fred get it opened up; great guy!!! m~
  7. Hell, I was at the Jazz Kitchen in Indy tonight and the place was over flowing with people. Although there are only a couple places to see good live jazz in Indy, this venue is packed more than not. m~
  8. ..not sure how to repair it but I'm almost 100% positive the plastic wrap is not waterproof. When I was in nyc in May, I'm sure they put my cds in a plastic bag....not that it matters at this point. m~

    Francesco Cafiso

Or this I know a lot of great, deserving jazz musicians that could use that money!
  10. ...oops, how did that get in there??? Will they never learn???
  11. ...to this day, I have not even received the second email. Got the first on quickly and the third (shipping confirmtaion) one this Monday but never got the second one.
  12. Drummer Mike Clark....guess his claim to fame is his playing with the Headhunters.....also played with Woody Shaw and Chet Baker. m~ Tony Monoco tomorrow night, Brian Auger Saturday night and Fathead Newman Sunday.
  13. ...got my tracking number which said my package should be delivered on 7/28....checked it again today and it now says the 31st.....I guess I shouldn't check it again, it may be the middle of August.... m~
  14. Same thing at the show I made the photo from. m~
  15. Yeah, I thought I would be really bummed out without Louis there but once they got going, it didn't really bother me. Very good band! m~
  16. I'm in agreement with Sal, Maurice Brown was very good! The piano player was 19 year old Jonathan Batise, part of the musical Batise family.....that kid's hands were huge! m~
  17. Marshall got high???? Here's a photo I made of him playing with Henry Grimes. m~
  18. ...and a nicer one of Curtis.
  19. ...and trumpeter Maurice Brown.
  20. Louis was a no show at the gig I saw. He cut out to play with the Legacy band. He was replaced with Kobe Watkins who filled in fantasticly (is that a word)....! Here are a few images from the show.
  21. I see AAJ and Organissimo as two great jazz destinations that I visit on a regular basis. While I use the forums on Organissimo more, I tend to use the other services on AAJ a lot as well. Love the interviews as well as the gallery that Mike has put together. As I've mentioned before, I think Mike is a great guy, his site is excellent as well plus the guy has done much for me personally. I also think Jim has built a great community of like minded (for the most part) fans of jazz here at the big "O". I've met a ton of great people on-line and in person from both boards and would basically have very little discussion of the music without these boards. I think we should be thanking both these guys for keeping these sites up and running!!! Just my 2 cents.......and worth exacty what you paid for it! Mark~
  22. ....not gone as I spent about $100.00 there yesterday while in Chicago for the day.......! m~
  23. A photo of the "Jake" for Soulstation 1. This is from my just completed 2006 baseball journey to Toronto, Detroit and Cleveland. This game was played last night (Friday).....CC was hit hard and was actually hit by a line drive on his pitching arm (wrist) early in the game. 34 hits, 20 runs and about 25 or so runners left on base between the two teams (Indians/Twins); Twins won 14-6. Tom Hanks and his son was sitting directly above me for this game. m~
  24. ...going to the same show...only on Sunday! Can't wiat to see it! m~
