This Friday and Saturday are the "official" grand re-opening of the "new" Velvet Lounge in Chicago. Fred Anderson with Harrison Bankhead, Alvin Fielder and Kidd Jordan....possibly some specials guests!!! I'm making the trip into Chicago for tomorrow nights show and Bobby Watson's Horizon gig on Sunday. Here is a photo I made of Fred during the final week of the old Velvet. It is actually shot through the scratchy window on the front door a couple hours before the show while he was warming up a bit. m~

While in NYC in late April, I caught the Lovano/Jones show they were recording at Dizzy's.....outstanding! m~

I used to love it when I was in my late teens, early 20's. I live in Indy, home of the US Nationals!!! I spent a lot of time photographing at several venues. m~

Garth, This has been discussed in the past but I can't find the link. A very good book indeed (he has others as well). I have spoken with Gene in the past; he has resided in Prague for some time. I wanted to see if he would draw a cartoon for me (photographer/cat shooting a jazz musician) and to my surprise, he did. I'll post the cartoon when I get home. I have pretty much a complete collection of the Record Changer magazine and they are a blast to look at. I will part with some of my dupicates in the near future if anyone has any interests. Mark~ btw, tomorrow is Gene's 82nd Birthday!!! Happy Birthday, Gene!!!
