  1. And that Cohn, Newman, Green Select---nice.
  2. I've always rather loathed the new, 2CD re-issue of Ellington's Newport album. But a third version??? Actually, I'll probably get it.
  3. (I kind of hate to say this, but...) Same here!
  4. Yeah. Who the Hell do they think they are?
  5. Buy a cat.
  6. I like Vinge and I like Bujold. Actually, I really like "space opera" if it's well done. Which is to say, page-turning, a detailed future world, and not too many logical holes. Neal Asher can be good in low doses.
  7. That fact that I already got four of the new RVG's for a higher price makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
  8. This reminds me, I would still like to see this damn documentary sometime. Love the Minutemen!!
  9. Good to see you're into Greg Egan. Got to recommend Iain M. Banks. His novels The Player of Games and Look To Windward are very good.
  10. Just got Clubhouse. For some reason (maybe because it went unreleased for years) I thought it might be substandard, but it sounds fine to me. As long as you don't expect it to be on a par with Go, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it.
  11. Personally, I like it too, but until now I was afraid to say so.
  12. I'm a big fan of Serkin.

    Julius Watkins

Well worth seeking out, for fans of the era... I'm a big fan of that era.
  14. How about A.T.'s Delight? Personally, I think it's a very nice album. Been playing it a lot.
  15. There was an article about this Ellington set by Nat Hentoff in yesterday's Wall Street Journal (Wed, March 28.) In it he said he talked to one of the people in charge of Storyville and they're planning on putting out a Ben Webster box. I'd be interested in that!
  16. The Pogues----yuck.
  17. Art Pepper/Warne Marsh Rollins/Hawkins
  18. When I bought Trumpeta Toccata I sort of assumed it would be good enough but kind of an "also ran" Dorham album, but no. There's something really wonderful about it. I think you'll dig it.
  19. Concentrating on just the drumming, Jo Jones is, and always will be, one of my favorite jazz drummers.

    Benny Golson

In addition to the fine albums already recommended (I love Gone With Golson and Gettin' With It) I would also point out two Curtis Fuller Savoys on which Golson appears: The Curtis Fuller Jazztet With Benny Golson, and Imagination. The latter, though it arguably has the less-impressive lineup, actually sounds better to my ears somehow. Bluesette is very nice, too. Frankly, it's hard to go wrong with Golson.
  21. I just want to thank everybody who recommended this album. I bought it a few days ago and have been playing the hell out of it. Damn good album!
  22. Nice cover.
  23. That's funny. That looks exactly like my next Amazon order! "Great minds..."
