  1. Just picked up the Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs box last week. A lot to digest, but some of it is pretty dang good.
  2. Sad, sad news. But on the other hand, when I visited the store some weeks ago I remember being a little surprised that it was still there. He certainly held out for a long time.
  3. Is it: a) the music; b) you; or c) both that's driving? MG Good question! I meant I've been listening to it while driving the car.
  4. Been listening to the Complete Norman Granz Jam Sessions box. Good driving music.
  5. I've been tempted by this set. Any reactions? Is it essential?
  6. Book'em, Dano.
  7. Not a lot I can add to the above. I love this album. Like the classic Wilson/Holiday sides, this is great jazz, not just great vocal jazz. I just love all things 'Lincoln'---the highway, the logs, the President, the singer, the tunnel... Lincoln, baby, LINCOLN!!
  8. Their first two albums are really good.
  9. I saw it last night and thought it was well done. A "different" serial-killer movie in that it's close to being a documentary. It sticks to the facts of the case and the performances were good. It actually took me a while to recognize Anthony Edwards! And I'm a fool for location shooting and it's got plenty of that. Corner of Washington and Cherry? I've BEEN there! Many times. (Yikes.)
  10. My CD sounds acceptable. But there's this annoying flute on some of the tracks...
  11. Agree completely. Even calling her a "jazz singer" is really a stretch. So she scatted a bit (and not so well at that), that doesn't make her a jazz singer. I agree that there are worse singers than her remaining, but she had an odd personality and even worse stage presence. Jazz or not, she would have been my first pick to go last night too. Total agreement. Jazz had nothing to do with it. She just wasn't very good.
  12. I've got that double-LP floating in my collection somewhere. As I recall, most of it is pretty good.
  13. The hometown of Ross McElwee. (Although he's been living for years in Cambridge, MA, which might tell you something...)
  14. I have a lot of this stuff on vinyl, but I should get this just to have it in digital form, and in one place.
  15. There should be! I'm with the folks who class this album as minor Mobley; however, it's certainly not irredeemable. "Minor" doesn't mean "bad." Come to think of it, I find I like this album more than the Thinking Of Home LP---there's something about the sound of the latter that I find a bit off-putting, and I think Mobley's playing isn't as good.
  16. I use ESP to read some of those CD liners. (I read 'em mental-Lee.)
  17. I thought Tower was gone now.
  18. Indeed!
  19. Thing is, I actually prefer this board. I guess I sometimes feel nostalgic for BNBB as my doorway to jazz discussion on the Internet, but... hardly ever think about it that way now. Same here.
  20. You would think so. As with some others on this thread, I'll probably get the Henderson. The others I already have on CD and LP.
  21. Was there a soft, easy-listening explosion at the end?
  22. Just lately I've gotten into Belle & Sebastian and Sloan. Of course, they're both kind of retro in a lot of ways, especially Sloan, and that's probably a good part of why I like them.
