  1. They were good for absolutely nuthin'.
  2. Harry Edison---Sweets Thad Jones---Detroit/New York Junction I don't think I'm gonna regret either one.
  3. More Than Night: Film Noir and Its Contexts, by James Naremore So far I like it, but the photos in it are strange: many of them look second-hand, as if they were photographed from a video screen.
  4. Once, Letterman showed a picture of what DeForest looked like in 1956. Truly shocking!
  5. I believe it is. You can order it new through Amazon (and probably CD Universe) and there are a bunch of used copies floating around. Inspired by this thread resurfacing, I will probably go pick it up this weekend. I've got the 2-CD set with The Soul of Ben Webster and the other Sweets-Webster session. Same here. I'm glad this thread got revived.
  6. I'm continuing to dig the Taylor. Got the MacLean and Byrd already. Might pick up the Thad Jones sometime...
  7. I wouldn't dream of it!
  8. I heard Joseph Cirinione on Fresh Air talk about the Bush administrations many missteps in dealing with the threat of nuclear proliferation. Very scary.
  9. Picked up the Art Taylor and listened to most of it. Very nice. What a nice player Dave Burns was!
  10. I listened to the interview (or 90% of it.) A good one.
  11. I'd say they were asking for it.
  12. Yes, it sure would.
  13. Not my cup of tea.
  14. A big fat scholarly box set of territory bands of the 30's.
  15. Strangely, I've been listening to the Shorter/Morgan Vee-Jay sessions. Well, not so strange...
  16. We can also enjoy Harry Carney. I agree the the version of "Body and Soul" on the Boston Blow-Up album is outstanding.
  17. The date is really coming up now... Can you feel the excitement?
  18. Well, I, for one, agree with you. Banning both football and boxing sounds fine to me. But then, it wouldn't change my life one iota. And someone would probably come up with equally dangerous sports, like jumping off of cliffs, or juggling hand grenades.
  19. That's the way it struck me too. I was absolutely certain that the record was something Ruffalo's character was playing both to blow off some steam and to express his anger and frustration.
  20. Bingo! Most Americans don't like anything challenging or different, whether its music, literature, films, art, food, beer, wine... Land of the bland. Oh, c'mon, you're just being...realistic.
  21. Total and enthusiastic agreement here! One of my favorite albums.

    Annoying, to say the least!
