I remember liking this album when I first bought it. Must remember to throw it on the record player tonight. Also, Jim Hall is one of my favorite jazz guitarists.

For the most part, I say thank God for Criterion. They've done some great work and I hope they'll keep on doing it.

I recently saw a really good episode from the 5th season -- "Darmok" -- I thought it was powerful. Guy Yeah, "Darmok" is a good one. Did you know that it's Paul Winfield playing the alien captain?

If jazz really is "being killed" wouldn't the lack of listeners be the main problem?

Riverside has long been one of my favorite labels, ever since I got into Monk, lo these many years ago. Monk's best work was for Riverside, and more recently I've come to like Blue Mitchell's Riverside albums a bit more than his Blue Notes. Johnny Griffin, Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey, Bill Evans, Bobby Timmons, Wes Montgomery all did either their best or among their best recorded work for Riverside. Jazz would be a lot poorer without it.

I just borrowed this set from a library. The packaging is a trip! Kind of a "cute" idea, but it guarentees that you can't store it with the rest of your collection, unless you take out the CD's and store the box in your garage or something. I don't know if I'll have time to listen to all of this before I have to return it.

Oh really? I mean, I like branford, always have, but "giant", in a music where "mega-giants" on even the same instrumet would have to include Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, & Albert Ayler, as well as a whole big lot of people who in any other creative realm might well be contenders for mega-gianthood, but instead are "merely" regular giants in this one due to the mega-sized mega-ness of the aforementioned mega-giants, I have a hard time considering Branford as even a semi-giant. Wow. Maybe the biggest mega-giants should be designated "giga-giants" to distinguish them from the merely mega and kilo-giants. (And of course, there's the rare tera-giant.)
