  1. I got the Wynonie Harris, and I like it, but no way is it complete.
  2. Would that it reproduced that cover, too. "I'd hate to take a bite out of you. You're a cookie full of arsenic."
  3. YES! I already have two copies of the Fargo. Show me the Cotton Club.
  4. Lookin' forward to it! (Thanks for the comments.)
  5. My first Mosaic Single! Who has it already? Reactions?
  6. Despite that I still like the episode.
  7. I've seen this on the big screen and really liked it. Been thinking of buying it.
  8. For a thread like this, I have to mention (in no particular order): Flight To Jordan---Duke Jordan Davis Cup---Walter Davis, Jr. Soul Mates---Charlie Rouse Fingerpoppin'---Horace Silver I expected that last one to be a respectable second-tier Silver album; did not know it would turn out to be one of the best albums in the history of the Universe.
  9. I played a cut off each (albeit an excerpt in the case of the Dorham), but have you heard THE MESSAGE or IN ACTION? I like them even more than the Blue Note. I'll have to listen to your show.
  10. Thanks for posting that, Guy. I call into question the quote I've cited. I've lived in quite a few places over the years, and everywhere except York, PA, the newspaper was of, by and for liberal Democrats. Since liberal Democrats are far from the majority in this country, I think that is the simple reason that newspaper sales have been declining for quite some time. You should check out some of the newspapers in New Hampshire and Maine.
  11. You guys are right, particularly with respect to the sometimes spotty sound. However, they're so damn cheap that I've gotten a lot of 'em...I'm weak.
  12. I love his eponymous Blue Note album...and his work on Kenny Dorham's Round About Midnight At the Cafe Bohemia; I do wish he'd recorded more.
  13. ...Not to mention her toast!
  14. I admit, I'm a fan too. My kids LOVE the show! They repeated a bunch of Christmas-themed shows recently and we just kept watching. Best part is usually when they blow something up.
  15. I did, once An astonishing experiance. Our kid, a few months old at the time, actually woke up and started coughing and crying.
  16. Smells like Manhattan spirit!
  17. I watched a library copy, twice. It's good. All the Hitchcock Criterions are top-notch and I'd have bought them all by now if they didn't cost so much.
  18. True, but these cases can be extraordinarily annoying. Case in point: Notorious---I swear the damn Criterion of that film went out of print the day before I decided to buy it. Yes, partly my fault for waiting, but it still sucks the big one.

    verve downsized

    Never had one.
  20. I, for one, am looking forward to having a Yoshi's in San Francisco. I'll even be able to take the 38 Geary bus to it!

    verve downsized

Verve may have been a mess then, but I've always liked those double-LP re-issues they came out with in the 70's.
  22. Congratulations!
  23. I was a fan too (up until about 1991 or '92 that is.) When I first heard about this, I was hoping for an anthology of the choicest bits from the magazine's best years. According to the reviews I've seen, while it does reprint some old stuff, much of the book is taken up with "behind the scenes" memoirs of the magazine in those days. Before I take the plunge I'll have to give it a look the next time I hit a bookstore. Same here.
  24. Which to get first: this or the Rhino girl group set?
  25. I was a fan too (up until about 1991 or '92 that is.)
