  1. Revolver and Heroes from the going-out-of-business Tower.
  2. Very sorry to hear about the damaged mind. (A mind is a terrible thing to damage.)
  3. Yes, indeed, count me as a big fan of this music. Much like you, for years I had a musical blind spot for this stuff. Then all of a sudden (around '99 or 2000) I really started to dig it. It's not "flashy" music, but it does swing. Now I'll get almost anything by Mulligan.
  4. I think the Teagarden collaboration for Capitol, Jazz Ulitmate, is a great place to start. (We all need more Hackett.)
  5. I guess I should just buy his enormous book. But it isn't so easy to hang on the wall...
  6. You seem to like the same things that I do, I love(d) Cracker and have copies of every episode. Recently a one-off new episode was shown on Ozzy tv, in which our lad, family in tow, comes back to Manchester after a lengthy exile in Oz. Last night had the privilege of watching the first part of the final sad Prime Suspect. Helen Mirrin seems to grow in stature with every performance, she has improved from a fine actress into a great one. Hope you are able to see it soon.
  7. I think I'll be getting this. Me too. Next week, that is.
  8. I've seen seasons 1 and 2 and tend to agree. But I've heard bad things about the 3rd season. Have you seen it, and if so, what are your thoughts? As you liked seasons one and two it's hard to imagine you not liking season three or four as it is all a continuation of the mainstory, gradually widening it's scope to take in more of the political shenanigans, which are closely tied in with the internal politics of the police dept. The fourth season also takes us into the classrooms of the broken Baltimore education system to introduce another perspective on the corner gangs. Major league great tv even if I have to watch some parts twice to catch all the nuance and , at times, difficult dialect. I'm a Brit. That's good to hear, I'll have to search them out. By the way, some of the dialects aren't too easy for some Americans to completely grasp at first. Did you ever watch that 90's series Cracker, with Robbie Coltrane? I recently reviewed the whole thing on DVD, and ten years on it still holds up pretty well.
  9. I very much agree! (Second home?)
  10. I just love categories.
  11. Let us know what you think! You've inspired me to revisit a lot of Monk.
  12. Wow, that really is a good deal! I wonder if I could find the first two seasons of The Bob Newhart Show for that. Easily. You can get both from deepdiscountdvd.com for $44.50. With your savings, you can also buy season three and still have change in your pocket. If you are interested, I have a "like new" copy of season 1 I can sell you for $17.50 delivered. I'm looking to scrape up some new CD money. I'll PM ya!
  13. Same here, though I haven't even been to Georgia! Would love to visit Savannah especially.
  14. I must admit to the same initial reaction. Then last night's 60 Minutes story really made me think again. The line-up of photos that the woman was shown broke several cardinal rules of line-ups, for one thing. The behavior of the DA in this case is disturbing to say the least.
  15. Wow, that really is a good deal! I wonder if I could find the first two seasons of The Bob Newhart Show for that.
  16. Zion NP is like driving into another friggin' planet----amazing! Like no other place I've ever been. But I sure wouldn't want to live in Utah, though.
  17. Interesting. Thanks for that.
  18. I'd love to see Crater Lake, too.
  19. In that case, where do I get my membership card for the white nerd club? Does it get you 10% off purchases from Filene's Basement?
  20. "In the air" is the key phrase here, clem, "in the air." No direct influence. But if "Marqee Moon" and Wire's "Pink Flag" aren't minimalistic rock, I don't know what is. And sure, the Ramones were of course a pop band...and minimal as heck on their eponymous first album.
  21. I need every inch I can get.
  22. It occurs to me that two of the three Prestige albums include Sonny Rollins in the lineup. You might want to keep that in mind. In fact, Thelonious Monk & Sonny Rollins has (if memory serves) a version of "Work" that is one of my favorite tracks in the entire Monk discography. But get Brilliant Corners and Monk's Music next. You won't be sorry.
  23. I've seen seasons 1 and 2 and tend to agree. But I've heard bad things about the 3rd season. Have you seen it, and if so, what are your thoughts?
  24. Like Sundog, I put my discs in normal holders as soon as I got the set (though in my case, dual-disc regular jewel cases.) That set had the sort of misconceived packaging that I just don't want to deal with. I file the booklet next to the jewel cases on my CD shelf.
