  1. Weeeeellll..... The sacred concerts don't do much for me. But that's not to say they're outright bad, just not my cup of jazz.
  2. Yeah, that too!
  3. STRANGE picture! Mr Ellington looks like a midget with big head and short arms. You should see it LP-sized - Duke looks like a momma's boy who's done made his mommy happy. He looks like someone just told him that same-sex marriage is now legal.
  4. Finally found the Sal Salvador Conn. 10"----used! Twelve of the tracks have Eddie Costa on piano and vibes, always a plus. So far it strikes me as just as good as any in the 10" series, and better than some. Now all I need is the Julius Watkins!
  5. I already have a little stuff from both of them, so I KNOW this set will be great. I've just been holding off because of the whole, y'know, money thing. You're making me want it more. Ouch.
  6. I hear that none of Ron Howard's children have seen so much as an episode of Happy Days. Perhaps he should be congratulated for keeping his kids away from TV, but still....it's a little weird.
  7. Just re-watched Out of the Past on DVD. Some quotes: "Kathie Moffett." "You're like a leaf that blows from gutter to gutter." "I don't want to die!" "Neither do I, baby, but if I have to, I'm gonna die last." "Kathie's back in the fold." "You can't make deals with a dead man, Jeff." "He couldn't find a prayer in the bible." "Baby, I don't care."
  8. You guys are so right, and Yanow is so wrong! I didn't realize he gave "Stylings" such a lukewarm review. It's certainly a four-star album in MY book! In fact, it serves to demonstrate that Art Farmer may be just a tad underrated. He and Mobley make a great team, and the compositions are strong.
  9. Hey! Now these dudes I'm familiar with.
  10. Any collection of Wodehouse's golf stories is pure gold, but especially the omnibus containing all of them. (The Mulliner stories are quite good too.)
  11. Damn, Al-----Priority Mail is SUPPOSED to take two days, three at the most!!! You've got a right to be P.O.ed at the PO. I don't know what to tell ya.
  12. Well just look at the shit he was into! Anybody would get tired of that after awhile.
  13. You know what it is? This is one of my comfort albums. (There was a thread a while back about comfort albums, I believe.) Putting this record on makes me feel good. It's an aural peanut butter & jelly sandwich.
  14. Well, as far as I'm concerned, it's just a very enjoyable album. Lots of nice grooves on there; nothing world-shaking, on the order of a Such Sweet Thunder or Far East Suite. Just a wonderful swing album.
  15. I've got the three Columbias on vinyl, but I've been waiting for these re-issues. Blues In Orbit is one of my all-time favorite jazz albums, period. The other two are pretty nice as well.
  16. It's been ages since I listened to this; I'm gonna throw it on too!
  17. How is On A Misty Night, by Junior Cook?
  18. "Andrea" Don't ask me why. I just love it.
  19. I'll say this much: The movie trailer they've been showing could be used to make prisoners talk.
  20. Hey yeah! I used to watch Kablam with my older son and he loved it! Now I think he doesn't even remember it.
  21. That's a great film. I really like Terry Zwigoff. Regardless, I hear what you're saying. And frankly I'd be worried if you didn't find it unsettling... What-----you mean it's unsettling?????
  22. I'm not a big fan of the thong look, either. But I'm willing to keep an open mind.
  23. Didn't he get two books (and counting) out of it?
  24. I KNEW it! I always suspected that I haven't lived.
