  1. I've got to admit that right now my favorite avatar is Mike's animated, cartwheeling "Flip" cover. AfricaBrass's James T. Cat popping out of the whipped cream is great too, though!
  2. Martin Williams was looking for the melody for years!
  3. I for one find it hard to relate to such old, clunky, corny, outdated music. How did pople actually ever listen to that old stuff? Yech!
  4. Agreed. At the risk of being predictable, if we've got to change our small coins, why not put Charlie Parker on the nickel?
  5. Another vote for the Bebop box. Some of the tracks in it are almost impossible to find anywhere else. I'm with Bev---the occassional mistakes and aural blemishes of the Properboxes are made up for by the cheap price and generous playing-time. If the major record companies were releasing all their CD's for about $5.25 per disc, maybe they wouldn't be singing the blues now about poor sales.
  6. Personally, I don't know why we ever got rid of the Buffalo-head nickel. That was nice.
  7. I have that "Souvenirs" CD too, and it's a great single-disc compilation! (Of course, you can't go wrong with the Mosaic or JSP's; both are good.)
  8. ...Huh? I honestly haven't noticed either of these threads. Except for the "pastel colors" I would think he was talking about a different site.
  9. That Bennie Green sounds good....
  10. Yes, very interesting and far-ranging choice of covers. BTW, nice animated 'Flip' Mike!
  11. I also like the Navarro box the best. The Hawkins box is a good resource too, though.
  12. I still have record racks in the living room.
  13. WTF?? Didn't they just come out with a Matrix sequel? How many of these damn things are they gonna make, anyway?
  14. I think dark Kit Kats are a sign of the coming Apocolypse. (Or maybe I just prefer milk chocolate.)
  15. The VeeJay dates are some of my favorite Morgan!
  16. Carl Ruggles!!!!
  17. Cool! Thanks for the link, Chaney!
  18. I think of "jump" music as a mixture of 40's r&b with (perhaps pared down) big band swing music. Or as swing with a more gutbucket, bluesy approach. If you've ever heard the music of Wynonie Harris, that's 'jump blues' if anything is.
  19. I think "Rain Dance" is my favorite cut on the album. Great piece of music.
  20. Love 'em! The Jackie Mac, Dexter, and Dolphy are my favorites.
  21. Hell, you mean that isn't a real Blue Note cover that they might re-issue someday? Damn.
  22. Just about everybody hated longboxes, they were awkward, ugly, and wasteful, so it only took the industry about 8 or 9 years to get rid of 'em! And blisterpacks seemed to be specifically designed to piss off the buyer. Now if they could just ditch those stupid, annoying, clumsy, unnecessary security stick-strips that are on the top of most CD's (and sometimes on the sides as well)! Whoever designed those should hung by his thumbs.
  23. Chalk me up as one who has nothing against her, but I'm just not interested. Too much other stuff out there to get.
  24. Shit, go for it!!!
