  1. The original "Man with the golden arm"! His work was always a bit too fantasy-oriented for my taste, but a massive talent. RIP
  2. I see it this way: It was Gus who gave the order to warn Hank. This gives Hank a better chance against the twins which is ultimately good for Gus any way you look at it. A)Hank and the twins kill each other. Win-win. B)Hank manages to kill the twins and get out unscathed. Unlikely, but then the twins are gone and Hank can be dealt with later. C)Both are heavily injured and easier to deal with down the road. As it happened, one twin dead, the other in ICU and easy to stealth-murder, Hank hanging by a thread. Gus is feeling good. Also, clearly Gus banked on the unprecedented attempt on a DEA-agent's life on American soil to cause a ton of shit to rain down on his Mexican contact, who had become troublesome. My questing is, what if Walter becomes perceived by Gus as a liability? Not good for Walt.
  3. Were you a big fan of "Kolchak - The Night Stalker" back in the day?
  4. Damn, yes! After Hank got the call and was looking around, I was just about ready to crawl out of my skin. Latest episode: Apparently Gus controls the universe.
  5. You'd think he would have known it was coming.
  6. Yeah, that's pretty much what I've heard. Word is the actors all seem to be having a good time, but the film is let down by a weak script. Hardly a surprise.
  7. A lot of people seem to think it was Mike, the PI/fixer guy. On orders from either Gus or Saul. But why would Gus sic the twins on Hank, then warn Hank at the last minute? He wants Hank and the twins to kill each other? I'm not sure. I like the theory that whoever made the call that it came as a result of orders from Gus. The brothers were a definite threat to his interests and were a thorn in his side. Hank was a threat as well and if he and the brothers were to kill each other, it would take care of those threats quite nicely. Yes, Gus certainly loathes the twins. But Hank's beating of Jesse was about to deep-six his career. Gus allowing Walt to bring Jesse into the meth factory-lab saves Hank's career, keeping Hank a threat. If you think about this long enough, your head starts to hurt. (I must say, I sure hope Hank lives. He has become one of my favorite characters. Beneath the Three-Stooges-like bluster, he's actually a really nice guy, and one of the few characters on the show to have a firm moral center.)
  8. Could just as well be called "Album Covers/Titles That Make You Say "YDS" (You Don't Say) There should also be a thread for WGFY---Well Good For You. You don't say... See how it works?

  10. I've really got to read this!
  11. OK, watched Conan on 60 Minutes---good. Watched the new Breaking Bad; almost as good as Conan! Not quite as disturbing though.
  12. Usually, a thread gets locked before I even know it exists.
  13. Hey---Conan's on 60 Minutes tonight!
  14. What a great looking dog! All the best to him!
  15. Really sorry to hear about this.
  16. You lost the final season? How careless...
  17. Bit of a shock. Yes, the more of his stuff I read, the more limited and sentimental it began to seem. The guy had his blind spots, and his stuff got rather annoyingly personal after a while; but he could also be a very good writer at times. Sorry to see him go. RIP
  18. Did anyone see them on Colbert a few days ago? Sharon Jones did a funny interview with Colbert and then the whole group performed a song. It was pretty damn great.
  19. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Catching up with the book after enjoying the movie. Interesting to see all the stuff that the movie left out; though it more or less had to if it didn't want to be six hours long.
  20. God, how I friggin' love that! "Ko-Ko" that is, not frozen pizza.
  21. A couple days ago: New Boots and Panties!! and Reasons to Be Cheerful: The Best of Ian Dury Online, so they haven't come in yet. Sure, there's a lot of overlap, but I have a sudden hankering for some digital Dury.
  22. I got that one too, and glad I did. Two very good albums on that disc!
  23. Watched the new episode of Breaking Bad last night. A good one.
  24. Gerry Mulligan Meets Just About Everyone of Note (250-disc box set.)
  25. That's the paradox of a lot of rock bands.
