  1. 1919, the year relativity was confirmed.
  2. Zero, my hero. Sure it's a number. Sort of. What about imaginary? Complex? Transfinite?
  3. This was tough----a lot of my favorite numbers are on this list. Hard to choose between 14,17, and 18. I finally voted for 12 because it's evenly divisible by 2,3,4, and 6. That's four numbers (not counting itself and one, of course). That's a lot of divisors for such a small number. Sure, 18 has 2,3,6, and 9 but look how much bigger 18 is than 12! 12 is amazing! Rooster, why so down on 16? It is, after all, 2 times 8, and eight is great.
  4. AND it's got Tallulah Bankhead, very enjoyable as the career woman/reporter. Very much a WWII film, but entertaining as such. Sort of a filmed one-act play as well, but better than Rope IMHO.
  5. I voted for Rear Window, but Notorious, The Lady Vanishes, and North By Northwest would be just about tied for second place. And what about Shadow of A Doubt? If you go up to Santa Rosa you can still see traces of the town that Hitchcock filmed in the forties. great performance by Joseph Cotten too.
  6. I also picked eight. Two cubed. There's something to be said for that.
  7. Has anybody heard? Mosaic says they finally got approval from Sony to do a Woody Herman Columbia Sessions box, First & Second Herds (plus Woody's pop vocals w/the Four Chips and studio orchestras). It will be a five-disc set and will supposedly set a lot of discographical errors straight. They have it scheduled for sometime next year. Good news for me, as I always thought the earlier Mosaic Herman box was rather limited.
  8. I was going to suggest In 'n' Out and Mode for Joe but the earlier suggestion of The Real McCoy, because of the similar lineup, is an interesting one. You might want to wait for the RVG of Mode----meanwhile Late has persuaded me to dig out and relisten to my copy of Our Thing.
  9. The tie is broken! It's Sonny by a nose!
  10. I'm late on this, but I agree with the others: go for the Roost.
  11. Will this summer never end??
  12. I very much agree with sundog about the cover to A Swingin' Affair----and how about the cover to Our Man In Paris for alltime coolness? Am I right Ed?
  13. I too would just follow the crowd. I followed it to allaboutjazz, then here, so why not continue? The point is talk and information exchange among folks who are into jazz, not loyalty to a Board that's been trashed by corporate idiots. If the BNBB comes back in improved form and lots of people post there, then I'll be there. Otherwise, sayonara.
  14. Excellent choice.
  15. I heard a rumor awhile back of a Dizzy Reece and a possible Clifford Jordan Select. But I haven't heard anything since then, so it may have been nothing more than a rumor.
  16. I agree with desertblues 100% on this. My main concern was getting the Randy Weston and I almost held off on the Green until later. Well am I glad I didn't! Started listening to the Bennie Green Select last night (after coming back from a weekend trip) and it's very solid. Much more impressive than I expected, actually. The musicianship by the sidemen is consistantly high calliber, both "names" and relative unknowns like Eddy Williams. Having Sonny Clark on three sessions doesn't hurt either, but the other pianist, I think his name was Knight, wasn't bad at all. Anybody who gets this expecting an "also ran" Mosaic collection may be in for a pleasant surprise.
  17. This poll was much less painful to vote in than many others. Sonny Clark all the way.
  18. BTW, does anyone else here have Monorails & Satellites? One of my favorite Sun Ra albums, but it doesn't get mentioned often.
  19. Yeah, being a Sun Ra completist must be kind of like being an Ellington completist----good luck.

    Jazz Vocalists

I must admit I've never heard of Cleo Laine. Have you tried Lee Wiley?
  21. Tune In Tomorrow is actually quite good, IMHO. I voted for Blood On the Fields.
