  1. Santana is always an excellent choice!
  2. How about some music from Mexican composers like Manuel Ponce, Carlos Chávez, or Silvestre Revueltas ??? Or, if classical doesn't float your boat, how about Los Lobos' La Pistola y El Corazón ???
  3. Just finished work, poured myself a drink, and now I'm listening to this: Marc Cary - Focus (Motéma, 2006) with David Ewell (b) and Sumeer Gupta (d) I really like this record. ¡Muy bien!
  4. Mal Waldron - A Touch of the Blues (Enja/Solid, rec. 1972) with Jimmy Woode (b) and Allen Blairman (d) R.I.P. Allen Blairman

    Ricky Ford

Is Ford now living in the U.S. again? I know he was living overseas for a long time. Last in Turkey, I think.
  6. Nixon sings Ives' songs in English. I was just commenting on her singing abilities. Not her German pronunciation abilities.
  7. I haven't. Should I look for it? EDIT: Coincidentally, that Brunswick LP is the source of the photo used on the MCA reissue. It's a bit odd because none of the cuts on the Brunswick disc are on the MCA comp. Another oddity: The image is reversed on the MCA reissue.
  8. I can't comment on Nixon's German . . . but I think her recordings of Charles Ives' songs are terrific. As heard on this CD:
  9. Jackie & Roy - S/T (MCA, 1982) A compilation of cuts from their four ABC-Paramount LPs, 1956-59
  10. So true! ... And it's not blurry either!
  11. Now on my 'table: Steve Kuhn / Sheila Jordan Band - Playground (ECM, 1980) Gorgeous.
  12. Just picked it up yesterday. Fantastic, so far.
  13. Gilberto Gil & Jorge Ben - Gil e Jorge (Philips/Verve, 1975)
  14. Yeah, both JMT and Winter & Winter seem to be in limbo now. Hunting for used discs is the only option, as far as I can tell. NP: Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - Porgy & Bess (Verve, 1958)
  15. Yep. Here are my posts from the last two weeks: - Warne Marsh Quartet featuring Lou Levy - A Ballad Album (Criss Cross, 1984) - Timeless All Stars - Timeless Heart (Timeless, 1983) - Enrico Rava Quintet - Andanada (Soul Note, 1983) - Abdullah Ibrahim - Zimbabwe (Enja, 1983) - Michel Petrucciani - 100 Hearts (George Wein Collection/Blue Note, 1984) - Bill Barron - Variations in Blue (Muse, 1983) Plus, there's more from Dan.
