  1. Ah, they don't suck. They're just old. I was telling my daughter about what a great band the Who USED to be while we were watching the halftime show... You misunderstand "old". Those guys sucked. Chuck's on the money. That was a terrible group of musicians out there at halftime. Congrats to the Saints. I thought they were the better team going in, and they proved it. The Colts overachieved all year, imo. Their no-name defense has some speed, but the team is basically just peyton Manning and Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne. Not enough to win the big one, I'm afraid. Now they'll drift to obscurity as Super Bowl losers normally do on the following season. But to our Indy fans, I must say congrats on a good year. You guys overachieved in a year when people were predicting you would likely not even win the division. Gotta give credit to superb drafting. Polian and his boys are terrific when it comes to drafting young football players. They are one of the best teams at doing so, along with the Steelers and Pats, and perhaps the Chargers and Giants.
  2. I just went to Big O records site and ordered there. No mention as to the expected delivery dates, Jim. Any estimates?
  3. Big Al, I sent you a PM and an email...I'm willing to re-sell the Turrentine box at my cost plus my shipping cost to the buyer, due to change in my employment situation.. That doesn't sound good. Hope things change for you iin the near future.
  4. How could they have ruled that second down pass as a catch? There's no way that the receiver had possession of the ball when it hit the ground. I can't believe that call. I don't think they would have won the game w/o that call. Vikings defense was dominating. Tough game for them to lose. I really thought the Vikes were overall the better team. Anyway, good luck Saints in the Super Bowl.
  5. Unfortunately, I spend more time on the Patriot forum than I do on this one. Always keeping up on the news... Glad to hear you're a fan, Bruce.
  6. It's hard to say. From the box set, I really like "We Free Kings," "Domino," "Slightly Latin" and "Live in Copenhagen." I don't believe the other cds in the box are essential. I do like the Atlantic stuff, but it is very uneven.
  7. The Pats are actually likely to have more draft picks than I previously posted. I quote one poster from the team forum: So The Pats have Their 1st (22), 2nd (54), 4th, 6th, & 7th Plus comp picks in the 6th, and 3 more in the 7th (which are untradeable) Plus Jacksonville's 2nd (42 or 44, depending on a coin flip) and Tennessee's 2nd (47 or 48, depending on a different coin flip) and Philly's 7th. Which brings us to a grand total of 13 draft picks in the upcoming draft four of which will be in the top 54 picks, and seven of which will be in rounds 6 and 7. Seems like they can miss on quite a few picks and still have a good draft. Seventh rounders can be quite useful in the NFL.
  8. Responded to your pm, Ken. I hope you got it, because I'm still getting used to the new forum. It appears as if I've sent the message to myself!
  9. So, you're saying the Pats are retooling and you think with the four picks they will be vastly improved, maybe win their divisiion again and maybe go further in the playoffs next year. OK, I'll buy that. :-) Yes, I think four picks in the first two rounds of the draft will help quite a bit, but more importantly, a lot of young players will have had a season or two under their belt. DL Myron Pryor will enter his second year, along with DL Ron Brace. CB Jonathan Wilhite will enter his third year, and CB Darius Butler will be in his second. Safety Brandon Meriweather will enter his fourth year and LBs Gary Guton and Jerod Mayo will go into their third year. Rookie receiver Julian Edelman will go into his second year, as will Tackle Sebastian Vollmer. Safety Patrick Chung enters his second year as well. There are also a couple of promising rookies on Injured Reserve who will go into their second year. The team lost their veteran leaders, Richard Seymour, Teddi Bruschke, Rodney Harrison, and Mike Vrabel this season. It got young and inexperienced instead and it showed throughout the season. With the draft picks and another year under their belts, I do believe the team will be better. They will also get rid of some dead wood veterans such as Adalius Thomas and Jarvis Green. Guard Stephen Neal is likely to retire. There are a couple of important players to extend to a long term contract or just place a franchise tag, such as Vince Wilfork and Logan Mankins. Yes, it was a transition year for sure. Next year could be a continuation of the transition for all we know, but the team has a major youth movement going on right now, and with lots of draft picks over the next couple of years (they have Oakland's first rounder for 2011 draft) they'll continue to add talent. The team has proven (along with Pittsburgh, San Diego, and Indianapolis) to be superior in maximising draft potential. btw, I think Welker will be out next year as well. They'll have to get a WR free agent plus draft one or two receivers.
  10. I can offer the box for $130 with shipping included. I'll send it priority mail. pm if interested.
  11. Looking to trade for a Mosaic box set. Will trade for Four Freshman Mosaic box (preferred) Also Jackie Mclean box set. Will listen to offers. I already have the following: Mosaics Jazz Crusaders Lee Morgan Stanley Turrentine Horace Parlan JJ Johnson Sam Rivers Curtis Fuller Gerald Wilson Farmer/Golson Jazztet Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Lou Donaldson Woody Shaw Hank Mobley so none of those would be of interest. Thanks
  12. Thanks, Noj, but I'm cool with it. Pats didn't dserve to win. They played poorly throughout the season and need to retool. Here's to next year!
  13. I saw the film this evening. It's a wonderful movie--one of the best I've seen in a long time. The plot is not original, but it was good nevertheless. The main character's disabled body is symbolic of the relative poverty of our world compared to the athletic body and wonderful world of Pandora. The army commander is a parody of army seargents. He believes in brute force and nothing else. Still, he comes across as very funny, and his lines had me rolling. The CEO of the company "interested in only quarterly profits" and who orders the strike on Pandora, is a shallow character. It is also pure parody. It rings home to the current populist distate for big business and Wall Street. I suppose purists will compain that these characters are shallow, but heck, it's a movie and not a novel. In today's world, where women are increasingly becoming the breadwinners of the family, while the men stay at home, we see this reflected in this movie. The guys are pretty much jugheads and quick triggermen, while the women are scientists, or chopper pilots, or future leaders of their tribe. The main character is a bit of an exception, but even he has an empty head, etc. This kind of simple characterization drives me nuts, but maybe Cameron views it as representative of today's America. One thing is for sure, our world of work and daily drudge pales in comparison to the simple and visceral world of Pandora. I suppose the difference represents one of the major themes. Pandora's people come across as futuristic Native American Indians, whose lives were threatened by others with better technology but who lacked touch with nature. Even the gathering of the tribes is a thin reference to Tecumseh and his attempt to unite Native Americans against the white man. Still, it is one hell of a movie. I'd like to see it again.
  14. How much would it cost to order one of your jars, Vaj? I'd like to get one.
  15. I'm for sending a cd as well. We never gave out prizes for any of the previous winners, but it wouldn't be a bad thing to start. Van B finished second two yers in a row. That's apretty good accomplishment, but who remembers the Super Bowl losers?
  16. Season picks are over and Vajerzy is the grand champion for the 2009-10 season. Here are the results: vajerzy 12 11* 12 12 10* 10* 10 7 8 10 12 12 9 11 9 10 10 0 175 Van Basten II 12 9 11 10 8 8 10 8 9 11 11 13 11 12 10 10 11 0 174 Aggie87 12 9 13 11 9 8 10 7 9 7 12 14* 9 11 11* 10 11 0 173 Noj 14* 10 13* 11 9 9 8 8* 7 9 12 11 9 12 9 11 11 0 173 Soulstation1 11 9 12 10 10 8 10 8 11* 11* 12 9 10 12* 9 11 10 0 173 Connoisseur series 500 12 9 11 13* 10* 8 11 7 6 7 13* 10 13* 8 9 11* 11 0 169 Edward 12 10 9 10 9 9 11* 6 9 8 11 12 10 12 8 9 14* 0 169 It was a tight race but Vaj consistently led the competition from beginning to end. The NFL pool was originally SS1's idea and we began this fine Organissimo tradition in 2005. Here are the past champions: 2005-6 Conn 2006-7 Edward 2007-8 Noj 2008-9 Conn 2009-10 Vajerzy Special thanks to SS1 for originally coming up with the idea for an NFL pool. We've consistently had at least 4-6 members play throughout the season, though some people did drop out midseason during the early years. Any suggestions for a prize for Vaj? I'm willing to put in $5 towards something.
  17. Does anyone have a Four Freshmen set they'd like to sell?
