Rooster, I think dental plans pay a lower percentage for crowns because they encourage regular 6-month checkups. Most plans cover most of the costs for regular checkups. Crowns are needed when teeth rot to the extent where a portion of the tooth breaks off. Dental plans likely interpret such situations might have been prevented by regular dentist visits. That would be my guess. I go to the dentist every six months, but there have been periods in my life where I avoided them for 5-6 years when I lived abroad.

Maybe the tooth doesn't have to be pulled, but you will need a crown instead. That's $1000 without dental insurance. Insurance usually covers around 50% of such treatments.

I got pulled over three times last year for speeding to work in Dearborn, Michigan. I had Ohio plates of course! Each time, I was in an unfamiliar freeway and wasn't sure of the speed limit.
