  1. I agree with Guy. I agree wtih Guy. The UE rate is a joke. It's as ludicrous as the CPI.
  2. Yes, there's a lot more pain ahead in the State I live in.
  3. This is very good. Has it been issued in cd form?
  4. It's actually history, Jim. I don't post in politics. But your point is taken. I just couldn't find the thread where it was originally discussed.
  5. I'll run your don't like it up against Mike Flanagin, MG, Shawn and Jim and you are blown so far out of the water its not remotely funny. You are Simon Cowell against the rest of the world, only you think your opinion should matter. You can add me to your list as well, Dan. I like Lou's funky 70's stuff. Not sure about the assassination conspiracy stuff either. Seems a long shot. But of course, Lowe thinks Kennedy was shot because he was pulling out of Nam? Did he post that somewhere? For Cryin' out loud, who put us in Nam to begin with?
  6. Read some of BlueNote's reviews on Amazon. Many of them are so bad that they achieve epic comical proportions. On the other hand, I think it is important to have "amateur writers" such as BN write reviews. It's not fun to read stuffy professional reviewers all the time; and it's refreshing to have the amateur voice, who might be way off base but is not afraid to state an opinion. His syntax and grammar aren't polished, but that adds to the readability sometimes. And I'm sure sometimes his reviews might be spot-on. BN has taken a lot of crap for his reviews, and I've done my share of laughing, for sure; but I hope he continues to write them. Amazon reviews are open to everyone. I wrote a few reviews on a music website that I would dearly love to delete. It's okay to make a fool out of oneself; and you never grow old enough to avoid doing so.
  7. Here's my review of Cuong Vu: I like his music "alot." (Hope I didn't violate any plagiarism laws with that phrase.) Actually, I'm not familiar with the dude. He's got a Vietnamese name. Interesting.
  8. I understand what you are saying, but this isn't a scientific exercise here. Feel free to substitute any of Charles Kynard's cds for the Legends: Brotherhood of Soul, Professor of Soul, etc. You can't really have a top ten. There are just too many to select, so perhaps we can bend the rules a little by listing 2-fers. I don't think Caesar Frazier fell into the time period either, but it's the type of music. Where's your top 10? I'm sure you would agree that it is not easy to pick.
  9. With an orientation towards B-3 "party" music, and not having checked the exact dates of these cds, I offer the following ten: 1. Get Up With It Richard Groove Holmes 2. Root Down Jimmy Smith 3. Got a Good Thing Goin Big John Patton 4. Legends of Acid Jazz, 2-fer Charles Kynard 5. Move Your Hand Lonnie Smith 6. Intensity Charles Earland 7. Love Bug Reuben Wilson 8. Hail Caesar!/75 Caesar Frazier 9. Don't Mess With Mr. T Stanley Turrentine 10. Funk Fantastique Charles Earland Honorable mention: Let it Roll Big John Patton That Certain Feeling Big John Patton Organ Grinder's Swing Jimmy Smith Bluesmith Jimmy Smith Soul Brotherhood Charles Kynard Alligator Boogaloo Lou Donaldson Turning Point Lonnie Smith Think Lonnie Smith Prelude Eumir Deodato Skyscrapers Eumir Deodato Cherry Stanley Turrentine Breakout Johnny Hammond Smith Astrud Gilberto with Stanley Turrentine Anything by CTI label! 10. Some of these girls might actually beat out some of the chess babes. Impossible!
  11. Magnus is really making a splash. If he manages to win another game, he'll tie Anand for the lead with +3. It would be an incredible back to back performance after Wijk Aan Zee. The kid is a major talent. I think we're getting some separation at the top 5 now. Topalov keeps going down, and I'm not sure if he'll beat Kamsky in their match. Top 5 for me are: 1. Anand 2. Kramnik 3. Carlsen 4. Aronian 5. Topalov. Like to see what Nakamura will do in the near future.
  12. That makes me sad, a player that I will TRULY miss being able to watch play the game. He finished with a nice season, unlike Marino, Kelly, Montana and others. Absolutely. I heard that he might / would have stayed if Green Bay had signed Moss. I wouldn't believe a word of what the media spews. Sportswriters write such garbage, it is incredible.
  13. That makes me sad, a player that I will TRULY miss being able to watch play the game. He finished with a nice season, unlike Marino, Kelly, Montana and others.
  14. We should also realize that Gaffney outplayed Stallworth and was getting more reps second half of the season. Hope Stallworth does well in Cleveland. That offense just got a bit more exciting.
  15. Jabar Gaffney hasn't left yet, though he might. Still got Chad Jackson who hasn't yet had the chance to show what he's got. Obviously. the Pats are high on him since they let Stallworth and Gaff look at offers from other teams. Still have Wes Welker and Kelley Washington.
  16. Had a good tournament this past weekend. Results are on the US Chess Federation website: http://www.uschess.org/msa/XtblMain.php?20...3611.0-12672331
  17. Carlsen is amazing but he lost to Peter Leko today in a disappointing finish--bishops of opposite color and all. Moro has no business being third highest rated. I hope Aronian moves up. He's an exciting player.
  18. Happy Birthday, Johnny!
  19. I moved around a bunch as a kid, and subsequently dislike travelling. I have favorite places (such as Abaco island) where I plan to return to several more times, but I can travel vicariously through books and tv now. It's just a function of my upbringing. I can certainly understand why others like travelling.
  20. Good pickup at a halfway decent price. Asante was talking bigger money, but Philadelphia is a well managed club; and they don't mismanage the cap. Of course, this means that Lito Sheppard will be traded. To New England perhaps?
  21. Ink Earl is a bad mo fo and so are you, Noj. Love your stuff!
