  1. I went into the local Borders armed with my 40% coupon and couldn't find crap to spend it on. I ended up just browsing through a few chess books. Wish I had a 40% off book coupon! I know, I know, they do have those sometimes.
  2. Thanks for the list, Mike. I don't have enough time to watch many of them, but I'll try to see a few of them over the next few weeks. I did see #2, and it was a good episode. I think you can tell by the plots and actors/actresses whether they are likely to be good. I probably won't be able to get you an answer for a while, so you may have to decide on your own.
  3. Then there's the dollar problem. I just read your link. Nobody likes a high currency. Kind of kills off the exporters.
  4. I'm sure the price of oil is not exactly thrilling stock market investors across the globe.
  5. I've got the complete set, but I don't know offhand which would be season 4. I could check the discs, but it would help if you could tell me which was the last episode of season 3, and I could go from there. I've seen many of them, but not all.
  6. Still, it shows that Woody was quite academic in his approach to his peers and predecessors. Compare his response to Grant Green's! Quite a difference, which I think is reflected in their different approaches to their own music. But I'm also hearing what you're saying.
  7. Some good shows there for sure!
  8. I enjoyed watching the links. As far as I could see, you did nothing to embarass yourself. Bill's interview was very revealing. His intellectualism and thoughtfulness came through very clearly, as did an apparent shyness. The music was great. Who else was on your show?
  9. Reading such ariticles reminds me (though it is not stated) of how rock and roll was dominating music and was marginalizing jazz.
  10. Great interview! Lee didn't hold back any punches and that's the way it should be.
  11. Poor GG bombed on the blindfold. Maybe hardliving was catching up at this stage.
  12. Woody nailed them and was close on the one he missed. Thanks for posting this!
  13. Looking forward to your return. Have fun!
  14. Don't be surprise if some of the value mutual funds in your IRAs and 401ks aren't holding some Bear in their portfolio. I checked the prospectus of the VanKampen Common Stock fund, which is a well-regarded value fund. As of December 07, it held approximately 0.50% of the fund in Bear Stearns. Well, I never was great in math, but if 0.5% of the portfolio declined today 50% then the collapse in the share price of Bear Stearns equates to a 0.25% drop in this mutual fund. Many 12-b-1 fees are greater than that! It shows the power of diversification. Of course, this doesn't take into account any losses due to sympathy drops within the investment banking sector itself.
  15. Great photo! I don't know how to operate a digital camera but perhaps I can get my son to take a shot for me.
  16. Fun reading these old posts.
  17. It would be a nice idea for people to post wish lists which have a chance to be fulfilled. That way boardmembers could offer to help other members out. Seems like a good idea for a new thread.
  18. Send me a pm. I've got the cd for trade or sale.
  19. Get a grip, man! Spitzer and his lawsuits only drive up costs for consumers as he did in the financial field. Where was your big check from the "mutual fund scandal?" Fund companies paid a fine; consumers got nothing, and you have to pay more as Janus and other companies beef up their compliance departments and pass the costs down to the fundholders. But hey, he made a lot of headlines, put himself in office and was able to spend some big $ on some pussy. And the field you work/worked in was..............financial? No longer do, but it gave me an insider's view of the b.s. that went on, and still does. But more importantly, I am still a financial services consumer as are many on this board, I presume. Further discussion really belongs in the politics thread, but you can read about him in the Political section, as there is a thread over there. Christ, remind me never to pay attention to any of your thoughts dealing with the music industry. You work/worked there, right?

  21. Happy Birthday to a guy who sports one of the greatest O-board names.
  22. Happy Birthday, Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! (Notice the slide on that name)
  23. I sometimes eat food that has fallen to the floor.
  24. Anyone have any information on this? Is it good? Available?
