  1. VERY excited for this and the Jackie McLean session. So is Clubhouse prime BN Dexter? I only ask because I've never heard anyone mention this one before.
  2. He's got a point. That was cool of the Chili Peppers, even if it was just a spray painted sign.

    ECM SMOOTH 'JAZZ'

Charles Lloyd's latest one with Zakir Hussien and Eric Harland ain't European Smooth Jazz.
  4. I'm actually considering a pilgrimage to NYC to catch this....
  5. Its fine. I guess my expectatons were a bit too high given the lineup and the point in time in which it was recorded. A bit tame, but defintely not a bad session. I just can't see myself reaching for this one very often in the future.
  6. Had not heard this one before getting my RVG in the mail yesterday. What a nice session! Excellent original compositions! The playing by all is superb. I've always enjoyed Kenny's playing, particularly with Dexter Gordon, but on this session he seems to really stand out as a special, unique player. I'd never thought of him like this before. Not sure how previous issues of this one sounded, but the sound on this RVG is very warm and clear. I LOVE the way RVG captured the sound of the drums on this session. But anyways, this session is superb, and really stands out for me, particularly at a time where alot of this hard bop is beginning to sound monotonous.
  7. Saw this film this evening. It was very sad, as expected, but an excellent film. Highly recommended!
  8. I've heard wonderful things about it from people I know who have been there. I'd go if I was you!

    SOUL STATION

Wish I "got" this one, but I don't. I'm by far in the minority.
  10. Still good for 20% off!
  11. What a great flick. My parents were really cool, they took me to the theater to see it, and I was only 12. I'll never forget it.
  12. I agree with you, and probably should have phrased myself differently. I can see this film being difficult for someone who is not familiar with Lynch, or is expecting some sort of narrative cohesiveness. In a general sense, its challenging, but like yourself, I didn't find it difficult to watch at all, just because I had an idea of what to expect. Its an experience, and you either surrender to it or you don't. edit for spelling
  13. Never been to this one, but I went to a place in Mexico where we put our car in nuetral, and rolled up the mountain road. It was very strange.
  14. I saw "Inland Empire" this weekend. It was absolutely brilliant. Its without a doubt a very challenging film, and one will drive themselves crazy if they try to make too much sense of it. But if you sit back and just take it scene by scene, you'll soon realize that you are witnessing something really special. Like the article mentions above, its true that you get a strong sense that Lynch is excited and inspired by the possibilities of the digital medium as you watch the film. Its like he's on the cusp of another creative breakthrough. David Lynch is a master, and he demonstrates why he may be the best in the biz over and over again throughout the film. Nobody creates mood like him. This film is a must for fans of his work, but I would be more hesitant to recommend this to the general population, as there isn't really a plot and the film is very experimental. But its definitely one of his best films. Even if one finds it difficult to pick up on the themes he's covering here (there are many, and I would be surprised if Lynch himself was able to say what the film is "about), its worth it to just to experience his elation with the digital camera. Edit to add the fact that its a f***ing travesty that Laura Dern did not get any recognition for her performance here. It was surely the best performance by an actress that I saw in any film from 2006.
  15. Isn't She Looooooove - lyyyyyyyyy
  16. No woman will ever be as reliably satisfying as west coast jazz!
  17. Love Red Stripe. But however, like all imported beers, its tastes SO much better at the source. I traveled to Jamaica a few times in my last job role, and from the time I got back to the hotel right up to bedtime, you couldn't pry those little fat bottles out of my hands. Absolutely delicious.
  18. I'm glad that Ballard is in the drummers chair. I like his playing with Meldau much more than Jorge Rossy.
  19. A Beautiful Day is really good. I don't even know why I'm contributing to this thead.....its not like I've ever heard any bad Andrew Hill albums.
  20. Rice hopes Colts trample da' Bears WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice often spends her days trying to bring two opposing factions to the negotiating table in the hope of finding peaceful resolutions. But on Sunday, Rice is shelving diplomacy and is taking sides in Super Bowl XLI. The nation's top diplomat will be rooting for the Indianapolis Colts over the Chicago Bears this Sunday. Rice told a meeting of network bureau chiefs Wednesday that while she is a big fan of Bears coach Lovie Smith and Colts coach Tony Dungy, she really wants Colts quarterback Peyton Manning to win a Super Bowl ring. Rice's favorite team, the Cleveland Browns, did not make the playoffs. Rice is one of the highest-profile football fans in the nation's capital and has said her dream job is to be commissioner of the National Football League.
  21. That's great news! I was already really looking forward to the film, and this increases the anticipation.
  22. This one is by far my favorite of his more recent recordings. On par with the BN's in my book.
