  1. Go to the top of the page, and in the "Search Music" box, enter Sly and choose CD universe from the drop down box on the right. It will take you to Sly's music on CD universe and you'll be supporting the band if you decide to make the purchase.
  2. Mad Hatter IPA from New Holland Brewery in Michgan. This is the best IPA I've ever had. Goes especially well with this Old and New Dreams CD blaring through my house. Life is good!
  3. I'll try some more, I'm sure I'm listening with a wrong set of ears. My two paradigms for modern alto are Bird and Desmond and consequently I'm missing whatever it is that Konitz is doing/saying since he seems to be in a somewhat different place from either of those two. Don't worry, you're not alone. I don't get it either.
  4. I wonder about that Roscoe Mitchell, whether it will be solo or with a group. I loved the way he was recorded on "A Tribute to Lester"....hopefully this one will have equally good sound.
  5. The Melford CD didn't do much for me, and I'm a fan.
  6. These are availiable for pre-order at CD Universe. Be sure to use the Organissimo links!
  7. Wow....I wonder how/if this will affect his current status. He could have possibly been one of the highest paid free agents out there, but this could change things for him.
  8. I thought I saw a news flash that Dominick Rhodes got arrested for a DUI? Can anyone confirm this?
  9. Sorry Shawn. Like Lon said, things will get better eventually. Hang in there and be tough. Back to the original question....I'm doing great, thank you for asking! My life seems to have always been a series of high peaks and low valleys (never plateaus out), and right now, I'm on a high peak. Trying to soak it all in and enjoy it as much as possible!
  10. I am not a big fan of neither big band nor Ellingtonian swing music. But I must say that I love the Johnny Hodges set. The quality of the music is consistantly high throughout the entire set. I wouldn't want to be without it.
  11. Amsterdam is my favorite city for a multitude of reasons. Enjoy your time there!
  12. Thanks a million for pointing this out, brownie! I had a calender of vineyards from around the world a couple of years back, and I remembered one of the months had these pictures of this amazing walled city in France, but I couldn't remember for the life of me what the name of it was. This is it! Looks like it could be a great first destination from Barcelona. Thank you all who have responded to my post. Its been very helpful. Keep em coming!
  13. Hello all - I am planning on taking a vacation this year to the South of France. My preliminary plan is to fly to Barcelona, rent a car, and drive into France from there. I would plan on being in Europe for about 10 days, with 6-7 of those days being devoted to driving in France. I was wondering if anyone on this board could help me out with some general knowledge. I'll be traveling with my father. He's very interested in historical monuments, towns and landmarks. I'm very interested in scenic, peaceful countryside. And both of us are very interested in wine growing regions and good food. I imagine, that in the south of France, that its not so difficult to find places that combine all three of these? Neither of us are looking for anything too crazy....just a relaxing, laid back vacation to soak in the culture, sights, and tastes of the region. If anyone is from there, or has vacationed there, and has any recommendations on places to visit, they would be welcomed! Also, does anybody know if there will be any issues with crossing the border from Spain to France? Would I need anything else besides my US passport? Is Barcelona a good place to begin this trip? Also, how are the roads in southern France? We both have experience driving in other countries, so unless the roads are absolutely hellish, I don't anticipate too many problems. Many thanks in advance!
  14. I'd like to hear the Tyner/Garrison/Jones rhythm section play with Roscoe Mitchell and Fred Anderson.
  15. Live Trane: The European Tours - disc 1 This version of "Impressions" is amazing.
  16. Miles Davis & Wayne Shorter
  17. My father likes to reflect on this on a monthly basis.
  18. Me too!
  19. I got it. Sprung for the two disc special edition which has the TCM special "Scorsese on Scorsese", which is very cool. The film itself looks great on DVD. If I remember correctly, the multichannel sound was pretty aggressive in the theater, and a bit of that seems to be lost on the DVD, but no big deal. This is a film that really rewards multiple viewings. When I watched the DVD (my third viewing overall of the film), I suddenly noticed a few parallels between Martin Sheen's character and Jesus Christ. You can't take the Catholic out of Scorsese!
  20. ghost, today was my first time listening to your program. Great job! I'll be checking out more of the archives in the near future.
  21. Its a small town!
  22. My dad lives in St. Joseph, MI, and was supposed to meet me in Chicago this evening for an event at the CSO. The sheriff of the county where he lives sent out a warning to everyone to stay off of 90 because there had been dozens of accidents and conditions were hazardous. Luckily, the majority of the snow is just south of Chicago. We've only gotten about 3 or 4 inches over the past few days. The cold and wind are nasty, though.
  23. Yeah--I used Massey's own version of it in the show. It's also on Lee Morgan's LEEWAY. I really like the version on Leeway. Massey was an excellent composer.
  24. These chairs are fantastic. Sitting in one right now. No way I'd buy myself one for personal use, but my company is very generous to its employees!

    Junior Mance

I've never heard any of his albums, but I've seen him live a few times. He's one hell of a pianist.
