  1. If you got Doin' The Thing, you probably got the best. I love that disc. That's actually the only one I DON'T have I love Tokyo Blues.
  2. Forgot about some of these. I have the 'Open House/Plain Talk' and 'Steppin' Out'. How 'bout some non BNs I may not be aware of?
  3. Have most of the Horace Silver quintet material but I need more with Blue as a sideman. I have Timmons' Soul Time as well as Jackie's Bag, Hi Voltage, and a few others. Are there any more that are out there? Which ones do you like? Thanks B)
  4. My next favorite trumpet player next to Lee Morgan. Woody plays in that distinctive style that twists my mind inside out. So much fluidity and emotion in his playing. Louis Hayes' The Real Thing is REAL nice and should be reissued by Savoy along with everything Woody recorded under his name for Muse. Last of the Line is excellent.
  5. Dennis DiBlasio
  6. That game is a bitch! Fun though. Damn acid puddles.
  7. I'm pretty sure the McIntyre Sessions wasn't a Conn but it's great nonetheless. Favorites: Wayne Shorter-Schizophrenia ('Speak No Evil' and others are flawless but there's something real special about this one) Ike Quebec - It Might as Well be Spring (I really like the mood on this one) Tina Brooks - Back to the Tracks (I think this one will be one of the most sought out sessions after it goes out of print. I like it better than True Blue.) Hank Mobley - A Slice of the Top (GREAT) Lee Morgan - Infinity (I don't see copies of this beauty anymore and think it will be well sought after in a couple years) Honorable mention: Andrew Hill - Grass Roots Dizzy Reece - Comin' On Larry Young - Into Something Jackie McLean - Vertigo Not my favorites: Don Wilkerson - Complete BN Bobby Hutcherson - The Kicker (Good, not great)
  8. Oh I'm calling it in every key now, motherfucker! That doesn't mean anything to a guitarrist
  9. Yah this place in Philly always has pricey BN imports. There was a Stan Turrentine 'Dearly Beloved' TOCJ there for the longest time: $27.99!! Currently there's a 'Smithville' JRVG I'm eying but it's steep as well...$30.99! Not sure I want it that bad.
  10. SOLAR Confirmation The Song is You I've heard these songs and some others so many times at jam sessions I wanna hurl everytime they're called.
  11. Found this at a store nearby. Kinda pricey $29.99 but if anyone wants it........
  12. 'Everything Happens To Me' is one of the few Chet titles I own. I haven't pulled it in a while but I really love the tune, 'There's a Small Hotel'; light, care-free, catchy melody. I'll check some of the places near me. Some of the stores in Philly seem to have older issues of some things lying around.
  13. Let the music speak. Obis are for fetichists. Does framing them count?
  14. THAT'S funny!!
  15. Scored a host of new CD's with some B-Day money last week! Herbie Hancock - Thrust Horace Silver - The Tokyo Blues Jack McDuff - Moon Rappin' Art Blakey - Indestructible! Art Blakey - The Witch Doctor ( I like this one better than Roots 'n Herbs ) Bobby Timmons - Soul Time Blue Mitchell - The Cup Bearers
  16. I wouldn't say it didn't do anything for me, however I was expecting something COMPLETELY different, especially after seeing Tommy Turrentine's name on the lineup.
  17. I love Freddie on Ike's 'It Might as Well Be Spring'
  18. Fair enough! BTW, 2.5 for Blue John seems a tad bit stingy to me. Yah know, I bought it when it was a dusty leftover at Tower and couldn't get into it at all and sold it about 3 days after. 2.5-3 stars is what I remember from listening though like I said, I'd probably have to hear it again.
  19. I wouldn't have been the first on these boards.
  20. But I guess the point to a thread like this is to ruffle the feathers a bit. AMG give Patton's 'Blue John' 4.5 stars......I'd give it maybe 2.5 I haven't heard it in a while though so I could be wrong.
  21. Then read another thread, dude. I'll read where I want and post opinions of my choice where I want. I didn't ask for your recommendations.
  22. I hate these overrated discussions. It's all a matter of personal taste. For the record, I have 'Lush Life' and it falls sweetly upon these ears.
  23. 'Thrust' is great; I picked it up last week. Love that drum intro by Mike Clark on the first track.. Boom-WHAP-Boom-WHAP.BoomBoom.....WHAP!-TISHAAH-Boom-WHAP-Boom-etc......
