  1. Got mine today too. Any comments yet on the sound quality?
  2. I got this too... nice to see good contemporary (NOT smooth) jazz out...
  3. Great story! BTW, how is George doing?
  4. How about Blow-Up, most of the music was arranged and conducted by Herbie Hancock. I bought this album in 1985 - admittedly, at that point it was for the performance of "Stroll On" by the Yardbirds - but I really enjoyed the rest of the music on it and you could say that this was my very first jazz album!
  5. Does anyone have the Shirley Scott reissues? I've got older copies of Latin Shadows (1998) and On a Clear Day (1991) and may want to upgrade at some time if worth it, especially Latin Shadows... love that record!
  6. Soul Stream - they should ship by Wednesday at the latest, so you should have them by Friday. Happy listening!
  7. I've got them all already but am just a complete sucker for the revisions... soon will be putting in my order with CD Universe. If you buy all 5 of them, they'll be priority shipped for (I think) $6.99 - CD Universe charges the same price for shipping on 5 up to 10 discs (and it doesn't cost any more than regular shipping!!). I also want to get some other stuff so I'll get shipping down under $1/disc. And as a California resident, no sales tax (a loophole they'll probably close some day soon)... Hard to be disappointed with any of these titles performance-wise!
  8. Don't you mean it's fine playing by Buckshot La Funke on Here Comes Louis Smith?
  9. I waffled on this one for a long time myself before getting a TOJC of it ... and agree certainly not the best of the Mobley albums by any means, but not a bad album either. Pick it up!
  10. Oh yeah! Is that Patton Mosaic select available for pre-order yet? With my engagement official now, I've got just a few months of unconstrained (except by my own inner conscience) CD spending, so I'm glad that Patton set is coming out now, right after my birthday. Is it true that Baby Face died in the 90's?
  11. I remember when this came out, the CD store I bought from had it on and they were tripped out by the fact that I could pick out the organist without looking at the disc. He had a unique tone, that's for sure... ...not my favorite organist by any means, but I have 4 of his CD's and I'm glad I do.. this is my favorite one of the bunch. BTW, Soul Stream, how is Ben Dixon doing?
  12. IMO, the RVG beats all previous issues and I did own the TOJC and JRVG prior to that.
  13. His output - 5 LP's - would be the exact proper size for a Mosaic Select. Would there be enough buyers to justify? Not too crazy about All That's Good... to me it's more like All That's Weird... but Brown Sugar and Down To Earth should see the light of day in an easily available format for the US!
  14. Leo passed away shortly after the making of Rollin' with Leo in 1962..
  15. Not away, just is the RVG or JRVG of these discs better... No way would I sell my treasured Blue Notes without getting (hopefully) better replacements...
  16. I have the following JRVG's I'm considering trading in for RVG's after hearing how well The Natural Soul RVG sounded compared to the JRVG: Art Blakey - Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World, Volumes I and II, a double-disk set on the RVG. Kenny Dorham - Whistle Stop Grant Green - Am I Blue Jackie McLean - Capuchin Swing and A Fickle Sonance Lee Morgan - Leeway Bud Powell - Bud! Horace Silver - Finger Poppin' If anyone here has heard the difference between RVG and JRVG and has a preference, let me know. Also - I seem to remember that people thought the JRVG of Grant's First Stand was bad. How does the domestic reissue compare? Thanks!
  17. Kenny - I got the 2 disc Peddlers set a few months ago. The keyboard player is a good organist but I think it's a stretch to call them jazz. Now if you're into "fun pop with jazz leanings", I'd recommend the set!
  18. My tastes may run a little different but my 3 favorites: Kirk's Work - Organ Date with Jack McDuff on Prestige We Free Kings Left and Right Have been searching for Reeds and Deeds for years, no luck, how good is that one?
  19. Would have to say "A Love Supreme" far over anything else IMO...
  20. Jim, I have a 32 jazz combo of "Constellation" and "Tune Up" called Endgame Brilliance. Since all of these Savoy Jazz releases of late seem to be reissues of 32 Jazz releases, it could well come up!
  21. Sad to see her go.. great actress... looks like she was beautiful too!
  22. If you want to break it in soft and sweet, get Antonio Carlos Jobim's Wave... a classic, beautiful album. Blue Note issued a series of Ballads CD's a while back too... ... I've used Stan Getz to break the people from that Kenny G habit
  23. RIP Lou... I have the JRVG and enjoy it too...
