  2. Damn. If I'd have known, I'd have watched...
  3. That one stands out in my mind because I saw it in a theater in San Francisco (the one on Market that would have a double feature of films nearing the end of their run, if by some miracle it's still there), and I was completely distracted by the location shots. I'd never seen locations in a movie that I was actually familiar with. Remember how frustrating it was back in the sixties to hear that booming voice announce the title of the show, then follow up with "IN COLOR!" Asshole. That's probably my favorite cheapie movie of all time!

  7. Still watching Dragnet, and a bit of Adam-12. Not out of any love for the shows; I realize now that it's a pure nostalgia thing. I was raised by my grandmother from age 11 or so on, and we used to watch these together. Funny; she died back in '84, but I miss her now more than I did then. I must be getting old...
  8. Not making it to eastern Oregon, eh?
  9. Well, I think the main problem is that Cherryh was published mainly by DAW books, and for some reason, I had this impression of DAW as some cheap garbage publisher back in the seventies and early eighties, and so avoided their books completely. I missed out on a lot of good SF with this misguided approach; I'm trying to make up for it now.

  14. My guess is the one that says exactly what you just said...
  15. Ah. Okay. I can still hear it though, although the lower freq hum almost drowns it out.

  17. 52. Hear what? I'll be damned; the speakers were turned down. I can hear it fine, and it's not the highest frequency I can hear, I'm sure. Did they do this right?

  20. Well, since my image of Paz changed over time from "courageous come back kid" to "whining cheap shot artist", I guess I'll pass...

  22. Damn, I know it's my age, but when I hear something like this, I absolutely loathe modern R&B.
  23. Brookmeyer plays a valve trombone. They were common in the late 19th century, less so in the 20th. It's shaped like a trombone and has the same internal characteristics - the shape of the bore is that of a trombone. The bass trumpet looks more like a flugelhorn on steroids - no long piece of tubing sticking out at the front. The shape of the bore is different, although I don't know the details on that. Heck, I was joking; I had no idea there was a real bass trumpet!
