  1. I had no idea who did it first, but that song was so obviously a Bacharach/David number that I assumed it was a remake. From Wikipedia:
  2. That song you're trying to remember right now? Willie Dixon.
  3. Yeah, I've been thinking about it today, and I'm sure you're right. I'd never noticed teams actually 'running plays' (if that's the correct term for this sport) before, and did last night. I think one problem I had before was that all I could see was the ball, not what the players were doing to get the ball where it was. Anyway, I'm going to have to check out this sport a bit more, that's for sure!
  4. I would contact a Master Thespian!
  5. Pardon the intrusion by a non-football fan, but I just watched the first half of the West Ham-Stoke City game (second half is recording while I type this!), and I was wondering if there was some fundamental style difference between the game as played in the English Premier League (if I remember correctly) and the game as played in the World Cup. I ask because probably 99% of the games I've seen have been World Cup games, and I just couldn't get into the game. Bored me to tears. However, this game is just one heartstopper after another! Is there a difference in style, or did the game just "click" for me?
  6. I've got to try some more Camus some time, just to see if I still like his work if nothing else. I think I completely wore out my copy of The Stranger, and The Fall wasn't in much better shape. But then, that was in my teens and early twenties. Another author I haven't read in decades. But then, I don't wonder if I'm missing as much with Lovecraft...
  7. That's not fair. Myrna Loy was a goddess.
  8. Krazy Kat Ignatz Mouse Officer Bull Pupp
  9. A bit much for me, but my ideal would be closer to her than to Ripa.
  10. It's funny how some animals show up in the strangest places. If you're ever down in Sunnyvale, don't forget to visit the flock of parrots that hangs out near Pak 'N' Save!
  11. By the way, Berigan, that is a funny political avatar!
  12. Vincent Price Kostya Tszyu Dicker and Dicker of Beverly Hills
  13. A little too vanilla for me. But then I've never been a fan of blondes. Generally speaking.
  14. the sun also rises is one of my favorite books and i've read it quite a few times - strangely i never made through more than 50 pages of any of the others.... You're ahead of me; all I've read of Hemingway is short stories.
  15. Abner Doubleday Charles Stuart Tripler Homer Simpson
  16. G.I.S.M. wouldn't have canceled; they'd have performed a song about it...
  17. Marty Feldman Teri Garr Gene Wilder
  18. Oh, God....don't get grandpa started about the Great Migration of '03 again; he'll never shut up!
  19. I don't get the idea behind Kindle. If someone isn't going to buy a book or a newspaper, they're going to buy a device to read them, and then buy the book or newspaper that they wouldn't buy before? Of course, the most absurd thing I've heard about Kindle is someone who thought it was great because it was portable. Maybe I'm crazy, but unless you're reading an unabridged dictionary...
  20. I saw one at work today. Asshole that I am, I faked a sneeze as I walked by...
  21. Nation Time-Joe McPhee
  22. Kemp's playing days were before my time; I didn't discover football until the '66 season, and certainly didn't watch minor leagues like the AFL. Heck, I'm not sure I even knew any AFL players until that cocky upstart Namath claimed his team would win the superbowl.
  23. Sounds good to me...
