  1. My apologies for avoiding this thread this long, but it's been a tough week with Moose at the vets. We thought we were going to lose him for sure, but it looks like he's turned the corner. In short, I can understand your loss and sympathize. Losing your little buddy is tough.

  3. Still under $3 here in the boonies; $2.83 for regular when I filled up last. Took over $5.00!!! Supreme is over $3 almost everywhere here.

  5. Personally, I would recommend reading as many books as possible rather than looking for one "perfect" book. And if you want to avoid any controversy at all, I wouldn't bother. You'll end up with something as boring as a high school textbook: bland, flavorless, and a complete waste of time. (Which reminds me of my favorite pet peeve as a history major: the idiotic phrase "revisionist history". If the book doesn't offer any new relevations, hence 'revising' prior thinking, what the fuck was the point of doing the research and writing the damned thing?) That said, the only American history overview on my shelf is Zinn. But most of my history books are more limited in scope.

  7. When I was in high school I had a tank of black angelfish. Plants were all local from the swamps (in south Georgia). Nowadays, I get the bug about every six months or so, dig out my aquarium books and plan out my dream aquarium. By the time I finish, I always get over it and just put the books back on the shelf. I figure those books have saved me a TON of money over the last thirty years...

  10. Wow. You guys continue to amaze me. I just saw the news on the WAPO front page and must admit I didn't expect much notice here. I've got to quit underestimating this crowd...

  14. No shit? I found New Jack City to be extremely cheezy with some real bad acting. How Ice T continues to get acting jobs after that one is beyond me. I'll agree about Ice T. It was Snipes who impressed me. And Chris Rock. Still Rock's finest work in my opinion. Not that that's saying much...

  17. Be fine with me if we missed all of the story. Though I find the defenses some have offered here a bit disturbing...
  18. Heck, I had New Jack City. Best gangster movie since Cagney's heyday if you ask me. What's this "kids today" schtick? Gangster movies have been popular for longer than I've been alive...
  19. Uh...do you really believe that marijuana would be any easier to find if it were legal? If so, you must live in an unusual area...
